Any word if our coaches or student athletes are going to do any of the fundraising or volunteer challenges U of H or other Houston figures and organizations are doing? I'd like to support recovery efforts, but from afar that seems like it can only be financial. Rather than a few hundred to the Red Cross or JJ's thing I'd rather support something Rice Athletics leads. I haven't seen any information on any such opportunity however. This seems like a good time for our university and athletic department to step up for its city.

Kansas State will be collecting donations Saturday. Their first two weeks are in Manhattan, so they'll just ship down what they get on their own equipment truck.

FYI-- here's a video "thank you" message sent by Rice students to Rice Housing and Dining staff, many of whom have not left campus since Friday to ensure the campus runs smoothly through the storm...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NYX-x-0KEI&sns=fb

And for those who may not know, the Head of Housing & Dining is none other than Matt Ditman's dad, Mark, who finally made it home for the first time this afternoon.

When I share this, I'd like to include the name(s) of the players featured. Who is the main one/host ... and the 2-3 others seen later?

Also, he mentions that there would be a link to donate more to the Red Cross later in the video ... but if there was, I missed it.

A.J. Lapray is the main host (very nice of a new Owl - not even a Houstonian to do that). Connor Cashaw and Grant Youngkin are the other two Owls. I think J.T. Trauber might be in the video too?

Women's soccer has cancelled its trip to California. Probably flights are very limited so it makes sense. Plus the teams really aren't in a great frame of mind to play. No word on volleyball but it's possible (and likely) they flew straight to Colorado from the Metroplex??

Bummer! I understand the travel and psychological issues, but I was looking forward to watching them in person. Record high temperatures -- well over 100 -- are predicted for Friday and Saturday here in the Bay Area, however, so it's probably good that they're not playing in those conditions as well.

BTW, the San Jose State's football and women's soccer programs will be selling special T-shirts at Saturday's and Sunday's games for the benefit of Houston's Harvey victims.

Sounds like Coach Pera's house suffered serious flooding. Prayers to him for a quick return to normalcy. I haven't been able yet to get back to Bailiff's house to see how his neighborhood fared. I would imagine it took on some water. I know Coach Lynch's house is fine - no water at all.

Pera tweeted last night that his new home took on 6 - 8 inches of water, but he fears it won't start receding for at least another week.

How long can a house sit flooded before it is not able to be saved, I.e. Becomes a tear-down? I have some friends who've been told it could be 1-2 months before the water is out of their house.

Some good, sound advice there. Definitely have them call a mold remediation company before they move back in if they do plan on moving back in. Our house took on no water from Harvey but we had a water leak a couple of years ago when our oak tree roots got too big and created a leak in the water lines. The remediation company came in and detected some water deep in the foundation but the mold levels were low enough that they told us the house was safe and we didn't need to tear up the floors and dry them out. I guess we might get them back and check the levels again but those companies are probably super swamped right now.

BTW today was the original home date of the Stanford game. Per the original post in the thread, we wouldn't have been able to play a game at Rice Stadium tonight.

Our house had water for a month after Katrina. We used a mold remediation company and never had issues in 6 years of living in the house.
