WKU fans, best resteraunts near bowling green?
Heading down for the eclipse, and wondering where i can find a great place to eat, around 6pm to 7pm? We like good smoked barbecue, and woodfire grill type places, also a good steakhouse is never bad. Love local and unique places, price doesn't really matter.

Thanks in advance!

It's probably going to be tough to get in anywhere I would guess, but a place called double dogs is unique to this area and it's on the main drag aka scottsville road. Smokey Bones /Lost River Pizza company / Raftery's . This is one of the highest number of places to eat per population in the country.

Was you able to get a room? If so, how long ago did you book it?

OP already knew this. That's why he asked about "near" not 'in' bowling green.

Best BBQ in town is Smoky Pig. It's a hole in the wall, but it's great. Get the Shoulder plate dipped. It's what made them famous.

Other local favorites:

Montana Grille - Woodfired steaks along with other "country" favorites are the main emphasis here. Really cool setting. The jalepeno cornbread is fantastic.

440 Main - higher end/ white table cloth type of place. Steaks are fantastic. Has a Cajun emphasis. Owners are from New Orleans.

Steamers - Seafood place that flys in fresh seafood daily from the Hilton Head area. Best seafood you will find in a non-coastal setting. Great atmosphere.

White Squirrel - A local brewery that also serves up some good, unique food. Another place that has a cool vibe. Beer is solid as well.

I'm sure others will chime in with other great places. BG is blessed with a great local food scene. You'll have plenty of choices.

If I was brave enough to drive into town right now I'd stop and say hello, hopefully traffic isn't to bad. I live about 20 mile south of bowling green. Where are you watching from tomorrow?

Montana Grill is an excellent choice. I've never had a bad meal there. My only problem with them is the serving sizes are huge. Just too much for me to eat in one setting. But always good. Nice setting. Easy to get to if you're staying in the hotels in that area.

I have no idea if the number of visitors predicted tomorrow will come true. I was out this evening and the little grocery store I was in was crazy nuts with traffic. But it is right off Exit 26 and gets a lot of travelers for petrol along with locals picking up last minute needs. Talked to some people that were camping out at Barren River Lake for it. These were folks that are from one county over that was only going to experience a partial eclipse.

My wife and I are having lunch with her mother and my parents and some family from Texas on my mother in law's farm. It's a little south from me and gets a longer total eclipse.

I don't know where you plan to watch from tomorrow but there are multiple gatherings planned around here. The only one coming to mind right now is Aviation Heritage Park which is a pretty cool place. But that road is terrible for traffic. I can attest from coaching baseball several years in that facility. Traffic can back up pretty bad there.

Glad you came and come back when we play football here.

P.S. Local schools are out tomorrow and several businesses have had signs up for weeks saying they'll be closed midday tomorrow for the eclipse.

Just checked Expedia and the only hotel in the area with A room is Glasgow's Towne Inn and it's $450 ...tomorrow it's $70 a night. Owensboro is sold out also.

Doesn't the sun shine everywhere....probably see it just as well outside the hotel as anywhere else

We are driving down near hopkinsville somewhere on the centerline, up for ideas. We have a cooler and a small charcoal grill, lawn chairs, ready to enjoy it. Also have 3 extra pairs of eclipse glasses.

Yeah, definitely like this town, came down for the game a couple years back, ate at double dogs then but had to jet after the game and couldn't enjoy myself.

I'm really sticking my neck out here. Especially with the current political climate. About 11 miles outside of Hoptown is the Jefferson Davis Monument. My grandparents took me to it as a child in the 60's and I revisited with the wife and daughter in law 2 years ago on the way to Hoptown. I don't remember what it costs to take the elevator to the top but it's a pretty nice view of the surrounding area.

It's near a little town called Elkton. Very small and chill. There's parking at the Monument but it might be packed tomorrow. 68-80 will probably be terrible tomorrow. I've been to Hoptown many times but can't tell you a good place there.

Put the JD Monument into Waze tomorrow and see how packed it is. I wonder if they'll want to pull it down before all this mess is over? Lol.

You can always head straight south towards White House Tennessee also, but the closer you get to the max totality the harder it will be to get in or out. I think we have 2 mins and 3 secs at my house. We have 5 acres and a mowed field to enjoy it. If you decide not to risk the crazies towards Hopkinsville, just let me know and you can set up in my side lot.

Probably too late now to respond but yeah I would skip Hopkinsville. They are expecting huge crowds and I don't know if that small town can handle it.

Not only that but you will see the exact same thing in Woodburn as you would in Hopkinsville. The only difference is that you would see it longer in Hopkinsville. In the center of Hopkinsville the totality will last 2 minutes and 40 seconds and in the center of Woodburn you will see the totality for 2 minutes and 3 seconds. Not worth potentially fighting the traffic you will encounter in Hopkinsville. Personally, I am going to Buchanan Park (off of 31W, just southwest of Bowling Green). It's surrounded by open fields (great views of the oncoming shadow). You will see the totality for 1 minute and 51 seconds there.
