RE: OT- Little League team DQ'd
It's really tough, especially for the girls who did nothing wrong, but LL made the right call here. Sportsmanship is a paramount value.

one thing I'd say is that this provides a pretty decent reminder to all the players/parents of the teams yet to come this year to be smart.

They aren't, as they got blown out in the championship game (which Atlee was supposed to play in).

That's the only lesson here. Don't take pictures.

And? I don't really see all that disturbing of behavior here, unless you're a Quaker or something, I guess.
It was meant to be a private moment, that never would've amounted to diddly-squat. The mistake that was made was recording it, and then sending it to others.
I am not shocked because that is youth today. But as adults we are saying just dont get caught?

How were they unsportsmanlike on the field? How does a picture off make them "unsportsmanlike?"

They only did something wrong because they broadcast it.
I'm allowed to have a private conversation with someone and say anything nasty I want about you. But as soon as I put that quote in the local paper, you can sue me.

RE: OT- Little League team DQ'd
LL Policy:
Those representing themselves as Little League members or Little League leaders in any capacity must refrain from any communication, whether written or spoken, that tends to degrade or demean any person or group.
I would say that whipping the finger to the team you just beat would be a communication that tends to degrade or demean that team. Anyone disagree? Hence, its is a violation of the LL policy.
Next question, did LL go overboard kicking the team out of the tourney?
Well, here is LL stated purpose:
Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists children in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes.
Which action by LL will lead the girls to develop into superior citizens? Allowing the girls to play in the LL title game despite their actions or kicking the girls out of the tourney for demeaning their opponent after beating them? I do feel sorry for any of the girls that were truly not involved. But frankly, because of LL actions, I think the entire team learned a valuable lesson. I have kids 13 and 14 who play high level sports. The behavior of some the kids (and their parents) is just horrible and the behavior is much worse among higher level athletes and their families. The spoiled, inconsiderate attitudes of many young, high level athletes (and their parents) is shameful. If LL's actions lead to one kid developing in a better citizen, I think their actions were fully warranted.

You got that right.
If I would have flipped off anyone when I was 12 let alone had a PICTURE taken of me doing it, I not only would have gotten a crack, but would probably have been grounded for 6 months. Bigger point is the thought of flipping someone off would have never crossed my mind when I was 12, now 12 year olds do it and some think it's no biggy.

Exactly. People piss and moan about the world being "too PC" and then complain when people are punished for their non-PC actions.
If my teams growing up would have done something like that, we wouldn't have needed LL to discipline us, because either the coach would have suspended the offending players, or the parents would have grounded the offending players (or both).

Oh yeah??
Back in MY day, if I would've flipped someone off, my parents would've cut off both my hands, and then tied them around my neck and made me wear them for two weeks!!!!
You pansy's don't know what discipline is!! The world is on the decline!!!

Oh come on. I did stuff like that as a kid never got punished - and my parents were strict Catholics who were VERY involved (Dad coached 48 teams and was president of the athletic boosters - and Mom was even more involved). And I was widely viewed as one of the best-behaved kids in my suburban Catholic school.
The difference is, I didn't get caught. And I wasn't stupid enough to take a picture of it, take it to Walgreens to get developed (they wouldn't have printed a dirty picture anyway), and show it to an authority figure.
As you can see, a big (huge!) part of this is that it's so much easier for kids these days to broadcast it when they do stupid things.

Good....
Maybe they'll learn that actions have consequences before they become adults. Too bad no one taught Kaepernik the same lesson. Maybe he'd still be a QB in the NFL.
