We scored 31 against the #6 and 35 against the #2 defenses in the playoffs. We would have put 50+ up against Penn State's mediocre defense and our front four on defense would have ate their OL alive.

Penn St beat OSU, thus you would score less than 31 against them. Guess I was right on the mark: 28-24 stands.

They gave up 245 passing yards and 413 total yards to Ohio State. Clemson gave up 127 and 215 total. Penn State had 276 yards of total offense against Ohio State, Clemson had 470. Clemson 56 Penn State 10 after scoring a late TD on our reserves and walk-ons.

You are leaving out the truly abysmal bowl record of the Big 10 last year. 3-7 with the poorest showings in the bigger games.

Penn State was as much of a pretender as Ohio State was, if not more so.

A debate between Penn State and Clemson - where are the Pitt fans when you need them?

What's wrong with just playing a tough opponent because you want to see a good competative game?
If you are in a P5 conference and your goal isn't the playoffs then your just taking up space that could go to a more deserving program.
Oh get over yourself. Oh if my team doesn't make the playoffs, the whole season is meaningless amd worthless.
What a awful way of looking at things .
Of course, every team would like to make the playoffs. That does not mean it has to be the only goal. In reality you should want to make the playoffs because you showed you deserve it, not because you used some scheduling gimmick to get in.
So I would rather my team not play FCS teams at all, because I want to play real teams. Even if that actually hurts its chances of making the playoffs. Because when or if they make playoffs, It will be because they deserve it. And if they don't make the playoffs but still win the conference, I will still call the season a success. And when your team goes 20 straight seasons without the playoffs, I hope you are miserable for 20 years straight.

There isn't, and has never been, a P5 football team (coach or players) that didn't desire to win every game they played.

You must have missed Duke football from the mid 90's until Cutcliffe came along.

They desired to win. No one doesn't.
Sometimes, you don't get what you desire.

1978 - Miami of Ohio over UNC-Ch 7-3
Dooley had been forced out at UNC because he made a play to be the Athletic Director - the gambit failed and Bill Cobey was hired instead. Dooley Seniors laid down against Dick Crum's former team. They did not want to win.

Coach Meyer found out firsthand what Ohio State And The Big Ten has long known; Southern football is played at another speed.
Coach Meyer knew it when he was playing in The SEC. With his Buckeyes playing in The Big Ten, he was lulled into believing that The Big Ten' plodding style of football (boring football personified) some how prepared his program for what it would have to face from The SEC or ACC.
How long before The Big Ten whines that it faces teams with unfair advantages when they play southern teams. We've heard it in baseball. How long before we hear it in football?
As for these early season match ups, The SEC and ACC will do just fine.

You keep your southern speedy basketball players. I'll take tough northerners. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Sugar_Bowl

Maybe Urban should keep them. Perhaps he could score a touchdown at least if he had some southern speed on the best team in The Big Ten.
BTW Clemson just scored again

Our speedy basketball players are on the DL and they lived in that tough northern backfield the entire Fiesta Bowl, to the tune of 3 sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
