Pick 6...I'm bored!
I'm a Big 10 guy. I'll pick 6 teams from that conference, you pick 6 from yours and let's debate who would have the better conference. All for fun, I have respect for all independents, conferences and levels of college football.
1. Ohio State
2. Penn State
3. Michigan
4. Wisconsin
5. Nebraska
6. Michigan State
How much market value would this conference have on just name's alone? I see a lot of value there but what about population of that footprint? I'm not much of a business minded person, interested for some insight on this. I've seen quite a few here have good opinions and/or facts on these types of things.

LOL... Not me
How about the B1G scheduling the AAC in football rather than FCS teams.

WTF is a "SYC"? did the B1G add a new team?
BTW, the ACC's SYR (Cuse) would blow out UB by 35 this year.

There's a lot of legacy programs in some of these major conferences that haven't been delivering on the namesake. When you pick the six biggest or best B1G teams, it's tough to compare against other conferences. Even for B1G picks five and six, it gets interesting with the likes of Michigan State and Nebraska...you could make an argument that Iowa and Northwestern might warrant some thought, and that's where the "parity" between the conferences is had, perhaps.
I'll put out two conferences: ACC and PAC. BUT, I'll put in the legacy value to these schools and see how others look to it.
ACC
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Miami
Pitt
NC State
PAC
USC
UCLA
Oregon
Washington
Colorado
Stanford

Its a little unclear to me what exactly you are ranking. This year's teams? All time records? Potential? Population? Helmet status? Market value? Stadium size? All of the above?

My 6 for the ACC
1) FSU
2) Clemson
3) Miami
4) Virginia Tech
5) Louisville
6) Pittsburgh
6 is tough. If ND would be available they would be a slam dunk. If not it comes down to Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Duke & GT.

For Conference USA, one answer would be once again left behinds (in no particular order):
Marshall
UAB
So Miss
Rice
UTEP
La Tech (Chosen as the 6th since they were the first school left out when C-USA back-filled prior to the 2005 season.)

I like this! Just for football those 2 plus the Big would all be pretty even across the board. Some teams have more national pull, some more population (recruiting), some have a bit more history etc... I think my point is, with all the "our conference is the best" talk, once you eliminate mid to bottom tier they are all pretty even.

There is no contest. The top 6 in the AAC has hands down stronger brands and value countrywide, not to mention better programs.
MAC
1. Toledo
2. Ohio
3. NIU
4. WMU
5. Buffalo
6. Miami
AAC
1. UConn
2. Cincinnati
3. Houston
4. Navy
5. USF
6. UCF
(I could replace any of the AAC schools above with ECU, Memphis, SMU and Temple and still be right. )
The bigger debate would be MWC vs. AAC
MWC
1. Boise State
2. Air Force
3. San Diego State
4. Colorado State
5. Fresno State
6. UNLV

Yeah, take the legacy component out and gear it toward recency, and who knows who comes onto or hops off that list. I think it's a bit more visible in the ACC, since Miami and Pitt were bigger way before their ACC days, and could/should(?) be swapped out for VT and Louisville.
The PAC's really a tough nut to crack. Colorado made my list because of their Big XII days...nothing from their PAC history. You, again, could/should swap it out for Utah, who isn't much different as a program who made their name in another conference. Washington...man, did they drop off there for a time...would we say Arizona or Arizona State warrant consideration?

As a MAC fan, yah, MAC vs AAC is probably AAC, but I'd take the MAC over CUSA and the Sun Belt.
This past season, the Grand Rapids radio was saying if WMU can sustain this success (like 13-1 every year), they could upgrade to Conference USA, and I'm thinking 'is this guy on crack?' No offense to CUSA, it's just not an upgrade.
MAC vs Mount West is more of a tossup. I don't think the MW is as a good as it used to be when teams like SDSU, Fresno St, and Boise St were all in their primes.

Yeah, that's crazy-talk. If anything, one from CUSA would want to join the MAC (if in the midwest for it to be worth it), not the other way around. It's not 2005 (or better yet 2000) anymore.
But there's not a big of a difference to jump either way, due to conference $$ penalty they'd most likely have at the time -- or the hassle in general.
MW has a solid edge on the MAC year to year -- but an edge. AAC is the clear "SEC" of the G5, where everyone else is like the "B12" (although the SEC wasn't so impressive this past year).
