You guys should run roughshod over them
I don't think so. They have their all-world QB back, Josh Rosen, and although they went 4-8, they lost to TX A&M in OT, beat BYU, and lost to 3 ranked teams by 9, 7 and 10 points.
And their level of talent is likely higher-ranked and deeper than our own, although we have made unbelievable strides in the last 3 years.
I think we will beat them, but it won't be "roughshod." Our first test will come the week before, against UCF on the road.
Does Memphis have the "D" to stop UCLA? I think it will be a shootout....

I think every game this season is going to be a war. There will be few routs and many close games. What you really want to see if you are a sports fan.

lmao. Memphis is going to beat us like a red headed stepchild.
They very well may win. Beat us like a step child won't happen IMHO. Defense will be to good this year for that to happen. You do realize we will average 330 LBS across our offensive front this year. The running game will be in play. That makes our defense better. With the return of Trevon Brown we will have as good a receiving group as any one in the league. Point is the Pirates are being underestimated this year and that is when a Pirate is most dangerous. The guys from what I hear are just waiting to play and have a lot to prove. I have to say, I'm really enjoying the banter this board is providing leading into the season.
In a matchup of playmakers on offense....Memphis wins on both of those fronts. We have SEVERAL good RBs who yall will meet shortly (Dorceus, Taylor, Henderson, Pollard). We are also stocked up at the WR position as well, ...guys who can play on Sundays (Miller, Mayhew, Craft. )
As for our defense? Your RBs will get a personal greeting from Genard Avery LB, our team's strongest defensive player. You're going to have to test our secondary to have any success.
As Dwayne Johnson would say "bring it".
As for avoiding ECU...how do we know it wasn't you avoiding us?
Will be a good game yes, but ECU will need a few winning seasons before they say they are back.

the game I want the most. Targeting no call cost us last time

If we have last year's D, then it will be tough. If our D is improved, then we should win, b/c our O should be unreal. But the D is of course the question mark. That's why I'm calling it a tossup and giving us the slight home field advantage.

I think that our defense will be able to hold them. Our home crowd will help inspire them. We should have a solid crowd.

Considering we won the last 7 games in a row and the series is 15-6 all time, I know who has avoided who. Sounds like your roster is stacked and we will be very much improved. Look forward to a good game!!!!

You act like Memphis created its league schedules. The league does that...we have no control over who we play in league...or when.
This AINT the Memphis Tigers you saw coached by Rip Scherer, Tommy West or Larry Porter. We're a LOT better...and who won the last 7 games in a row means diddly squat..as most of these young men were in elementary school.
We've been recruiting at a very high level now since we hired Coach Mike Norvell. We are starting to beat out P5 schools for some good players. Schools like LSU, Florida come to mind.

Results of games from past years will have no influence on the game this season and the league makes the schedule.

But you are coming to Houston
Who knows? It should be a great game. I give us the slight advantage over Houston, b/c we won at home last year, and you guys lost Ward.
And year before last, we lost on a missed FG our guy usually makes, after having a 20-point lead.
Our offense should be awesome. Whether it's our year or not will depend on how much our D improves.
At least we both have something to look forward to.
The last three Houston-Memphis games have been epic. This years game sure looks like another classic is in store. A lot can happen between now and then, right now I'm ready to see us play ULM.
