Here is a link
https://ope.ed.gov/athletics/#/institution/details

You can see that the number in both sites are different, but the ones on the link above are suppose to be the official school reports.
Correct

The ope.ed.gov/athletics numbers are indeed the official university reported numbers to US Department of Education. They vary somewhat with the USAToday numbers.

Review the "Methodology" of at the foot of the USAToday numbers and it helps understand why they don't equal. USAToday uses those reported numbers as their base and adjusts for "reality"(my wording in trying to decipher "Methodology") in the academic/athletic world.

From a "real world" perspective, I think USAToday's are close while putting the numbers in a format that the average/above average fan can understand.

I'm pretty sure you're correct. Every season there is a major change to the stadium and basketball arena. We just installed the big video board and updated sound system. Basketball arena got a new video scoreboard and ribbon around the arena. This season was expansion of club areas of the football stadium. In a couple years we have the recruiting water park going in around the stadium.

USA Today uses the athletic figures provided to the NCAA not the Dept of Education. I don't know why these numbers differ but USA Today doesn't manipulate the figures other than grouping them into more concise categories. The audited financials that are sent to the NCAA are available online for all VA schools and ODU's total revenues & expenses match to the dollar. Something gets left off the numbers sent to the DOE because those figures are about 4.5 million less.
