Never thought I would see my hometown on anyone's list when I opened this thread

Which one? San Antonio, Corpus Christi, or Albuquerque?
The answer is in his screen name, more or less

Ahh. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Corpus Christi is my dream retirement destination. Someday...

Too cold. No thanks.

Anywhere it has the potential to snow on my birthday (end of April) is north of the wall for me.

You might as well go to Alaska if that's what you like. No state taxes + an oil subsidy.

Haha there's a lot more to being a man than subjecting yourself to the miserable cold.

As for me... I'm hoping to end up in the Great Smoky Mountains, along the TN/NC border. If not there, then maybe on Lake Lure, outside of Asheville, NC. I'd have my fair share of snow, without being buried in it.

RE: favorite US city to visit
Interesting thread. I only spent a little time in NYC and haven't gotten the full experience I'm sure. For me the cities I've enjoyed the most that I've been to:
1. New Orleans- Music, atmosphere, food... just a wonderful place
2. Nashville- Live music with no cover.... don't mind throwing some tips for the bands I really enjoy but it's great just being able to walk into bar after bar and hear different bands.
3. Vegas (only been twice but amazing both times.. completely different than everything else and I'm not even a big gambler)
4. Asheville- beautiful town, great hiking, fun night life...
5. Memphis - Barbecue and Beale Street

Favorite College Towns to Visit:
1. Athens, Ohio- just a wonderful time every single time. Bars are great, people are fun and friendly. Never can complain.
2. Norman, Oklahoma- My favorite trip ever for a road Bearcat football game. The Oklahoma fans were amazing and took care of us all weekend. They bought us drinks and invited us to tailgates. The night out on campus was great.
3. Fort Collins, Colorado - Probably unfair to limit it to a college town, but I absolutely loved Fort Collins. Great little breweries, loved the bar seen, not far from some amazing hiking and beautiful part of the country.

I'm sure there are other places that are similar, but my yearly favorite trip:
Sunset Beach, NC- My dad is from Wilmington, NC and we used to go to Wrightsville Beach every year. It was great, but more and more crowded every year with very busy streets and beaches. After my dad passed away in 2002, we started going with his Best friend (and his family) to Sunset Beach and have never looked back. A small Island, where on our end there are only 2 streets that run parallel to the ocean (the other side is wider but still not terribly busy). The place lacks big beachfront hotels so the streets are less crowded and the beach by where we stay allows you to have a ton of space to enjoy. Every time someone leaves the Island they are required to bring back beer and we take turns making the big meal for the night. We are heading back in less than two weeks and I cannot wait. We are also stopping at Lexington #1 Barbecue (Honey Monks) on the way down because it's my favorite of the Carolina BBQ spots I have found and I love NC BBQ (both Lexington Style and Eastern NC Style). I cannot wait.

RE: favorite US city to visit
- Seattle - Beautiful city with lots of great things to do. I really want to move here.
- DC - So many great museums and other interesting things to do.
- New York - Can't stand the accent or the attitudes, but there's really nothing else like it.
- Boston - Historic city with some great historical sites, which really fascinate me
- Salt Lake City - Great ecotourism, love to be here during the winter

Two cities I've not spent enough time in to have a real good feel for - Philadelphia and Denver.

Did a hike on Roan Mountain, just across the NC over into Tennessee while ago. At the time we were staying in a timeshare in Beech Mountain. We also visited Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell (tallest peak east of the Mississippi). It was a great trip/location.

It is, as is northern Minnesota. A lot of my wife's family has cabins in northern Minnesota and I love going up there in the summer. I actually like going up there in the winter too, very peaceful being surrounded by woods, snow, and complete silence.

i've really only spent time up in northern wisky in the fall. although i did spring break in door county one year. you can fall in love with anyplace in the fall, true. the splendid isolation of sitting in front of a lake wearing comfortable flannel is irresistible to the soul

I was in Wisconsin a few years ago and someone said that it hadn't hit 90 degrees in something like 8 years.

I realize Wichita is not in the Sun Belt, but jeez, my guess is that that has never been a year, recorded or not, that Kansas hasn't hit 90 degrees.
