We are expanding our stadium at the end of this year. Bringing capacity to around 53,000.

As an outsider here are my suggestions.
ODU: Game plan is good for their new stadium
Marshall: I would chair back entire stadium in green chair backs. Then I would increase luxury seating above the stands on both sides of the field.
Southern Miss: Chair back the entire stadium in gold chair backs (similar to Pittsburgh). I would then add more seating above the new luxury seating with chair backs as well and a large video board in the middle. That should keep capacity about the same but creating nicer seating and keeping more sound in the stadium and making the stadium to appear much larger.
Rice: Chair entire stadium in Navy seating. Take down one upper deck and build mutlple leavles of luxury seating. With their deep pocket alumi and location in Houston they could get fans in luxury seating.

I wish Marshall had 1/10th of the drive, vision, and want to as ECU does. No reason we shouldn't. You guys have dwarfed us in the last 15 years and that's really sad.

I think Marshall has a lot of potential. It sucks you guys can get a annual game with West Virginia. I think it would be good for both fan bases who play a lot of conference games far away. Marshall has always had good fan following, just need to get back on top in CUSA.

RE: Conference USA Football Stadiums
FAU's stadium was built with an eye to expanding it to 50K. I can't imagine our attendance numbers justifying it but if anyone thinks that attendance number is what matters in whether the expansion occurs they are not inhabiting same reality as the rest of us. Boca Raton will want a far bigger stadium for Boca Raton bowl. The city may prefer to appear more youthful, more happening on the TV screens.

Boca Raton does not want to be known chiefly as the subtropical paradise for the retirees and beach going tourists. And the low attendance number isn't going to matter much.

Marshall's stadium holds a little over 38K. Our largest crowd is 42K and change and the second largest 41K and change - both against WVU. The stadium was designed so that upper decks could be added to increase capacity to around 55K. That will never happen. We'll continue to average around 26-27K each year.

Not necessarily true. Expansion wasn't a consideration before because we NEVER had a "name" team in the Joan. Expansion isn't always about average attendance. We could have filled more space or at least made people more comfortable for WVU, Kstate, Purdue, Louisville, VT (if we'd had a better squad at the time.) We've got Boise, NCSt, Pitt, and others coming in the future. A second deck on the east side would not be a bad idea and could simply be covered unless a game is approaching sellout. It also makes a team more attractive to recruits, other conferences, etc. I agree we probably do not need it, but we've had 40k+ now on several occasions in a 38k stadium and who knows what we might have had with more seating available. Wouldn't hurt to have some shade on the east side as well. Gets pretty brutal over there.

Joan C Edwards Stadium is 38,227 and expandable up to 55,000. That's with a 10,000 seat deck on the side without the press box and a 7,000 seat deck on the press box side. The footers for both decks were laid at the 1st phase of the stadium build.

More seats are only necessary if you're filling the ones you have. A small but full stadium looks better than a large empty one.

Note: this is a general response, not specifically about USM.

Good point. ODU should be the only team considering expansion of their stadium at this time.

I think Charlotte should go ahead and get to 20-25K as well. It will help bring in bigger names.

Half our conference couldn't fill Charlotte's 15k stadium were it on their campus. At least they have the excuse of only being a program 4 years or whatever.
