hahahahahahaha
I think a BJ or ISUr fan has come and poisoned the waterhole.
You deny he left returning his most talented team on paper? You don't think the two time POY in a far superior league wouldn't have been a difference maker at ISU? The Gods smiled on you, be thankful for that stretch you had. Lots went into to making it happen for you and most of it had nothing to do w how you played on the court. Better to be lucky than good
So ISUr it is then. I thought most Redbird fans hated Jank.

Illinois State. I'm not worried anymore about our lack of success in St. Louis, we always struggled there for whatever reason and Illinois State was the lucky team to take advantage of it that year. Plus it's not like they dominated us in that game, it was close and we swept them in the regular season so they were out for blood.

And for the record I've started fresh with my perception of Jank. I'll wait and see what he does the next couple of years. I was impressed by how he handled your team last year and think that he probably benefited greatly from his tutelage under Larry Brown. Time will tell. As much as some shocker fans dislike him, I think that a good SMU is good for the league.

We don't dislike Jank, we laughed at him for 4 years and we pitied Ill St. fans.

Anybody know Marshall's head-to-head record against SMU's version of John Wooden?

It will be interesting to see how WSU starts recruiting in the DFW metro area. My guess is we will do just fine.

To some of the above posts lets just drop the Jank ISUr stuff. I don't really care if WSU did well against him there. SMU isn't ISUr and ISUr isn't SMU. Jank seems to be in a much better situation and have learned from Larry Brown. I never said he was Gods gift to coaching, I would say Marshall is a better coach in most aspects, but Jank has done a good job here and doesn't appear to be slowing down. To say he is because of him having moderate success years ago at Ill. St. shows you don't know our roster.
Regarding recruiting in DFW, I doubt you get a huge spike in recruiting in DFW just from joining the AAC. If you had just joined the Big 12 maybe. SMU doesn't even heavily focus on DFW for recruiting. We cherry pick from DFW prospects we like, but most of the truly elite guys go to UK, Duke, UT. Outside of that it is fair game between everyone, but we recruit all over TX, Oklahoma, and the South. Wouldn't shock me if y'all could get a 3-star prospect out of DFW.
Our roster breakdown by location is:
3 Oklahoma
2 Dallas, TX
1 Houston
1 Memphis, TN
1 Missouri
1 Kansas (McMurray)
1 Nebraska
1 Canada

We recruit nationwide and that isn't going to change, the AAC is just going to give us earlier exposure to kids in different markets. Our AAC recruits so far are Washington, Tennessee, and Alabama.

I guessed that. I am sure the AAC will help you guys in recruiting and maybe open you up to looking into new areas. We do the same and focus our recruiting nationally and locally.

I checked it out. Jank owned Marshall the first couple of years. Starting with Marshall's 3rd year, the tables turned. Regular season games ended with Marshall up 6-4.
It might be pointed out to AAC fans that Marshall inherited a pretty bare bones cupboard. Turgeon went from a S16 to a 6th place finish in the MVC and knew the next year would be worse, so he bolted to a program where a buddy of his could hire him.
By the time Jank left, Marshall owned him. I'm confident the two will remember each other.
Jankovich is a KU guy. Larry Brown was a KU coach who cheated his ass off and got away with most of it when he was there. WSU fans aren't fond of KU.

PonyStark does remind me of a lot posters on MVCFans. It's sort of like deja vu to run into the same arguments we've been hearing for years about why WSU will be the sucks while their team will be the shizzle.
I don't think SMU with Ojeleye would have stayed within 10 of Kentucky last year. I do expect SMU to be competitive when we play them in Dallas.
In some of my travels for business and entertainment, I've spent quite a bit of time in Dallas. Here's a joke I picked up in Dallas.
What's the difference between a cactus and a Mercedes on the SMU campus?
The cactus has the pricks on the outside.

In regards to your other comment, we didnt play UK so can't tell you if we would have stayed within 10 or not. If we were shooting hot, I don't see why we couldn't because UK played real mediocre D. I don'y get why we couldnt stay within 10 of UK, but most of the SEC could.. doesn't add up to me. I think its delusional to think WSU was way better than SMU last year. We didn't play so tough to say who is better, but I don't think there is much of an argument for much better.
And yeah we have some "interesting" fans as do all fan bases. Nice SMU joke. Why do we can our tailgating boulevarding? Because Mercedes don't have tailgates.
I am sure Jank and Marshall will remember each other. It isn't like Jank inherited a good Illinois State team, they hadn't won 20 games since 2000 when Jank took over. As I said before different time and different team, don't think he is the same coach as he was then and has much better personnel now. It should be some fun battles over the next few years with the Shockers.

Sometimes in the offseason we have to go through our practice drills to see how things are going to play out during the regular season. I'm referring to the posters here, not the basketball teams.

You do realize 15 seed NKU stayed within 10 of UK last year in the NCAAT? Wichita State losing by 3 to UK isn't some noteworthy achievement....

Not bad, not bad. That applies more to SMU than Cincinnati, but still a solid comeback.
