RE: UTC AD to resign
From being a front runner to the UT job to resigning from UTC? Very strange- I imagine we will learn much more about this over the coming months.

UTC AD to resign
Their athletic department is a complete mess right now. Sad!

There are some in the Knoxville area that feel he was never a serious candidate for AD, although qualified. The way UT works, they were never going to hire him (or Fulmer).

RE: UTC AD to resign
Which is why UT keeps making bad coaching hires. If I was their chancellor, I would be outraged at all the "mistakes" they have made hiring football, basketball, and women's basketball coaches. It has cost that university MILLIONS (and I'm mainly referring to buy-outs here), which is why I would never support them financially. Waste of money, plain and simple. I think the Currie hire was bad as well, but time will have to tell.
Then there's this:

If our AD did this, I would be glad he's gone. Bad decision making on his part.

RE: UTC AD to resign
I don't mean to get into a detailed discussion about UT, but I don't think they have had too many bad hires. I think the women's coach was a solid replacement for Pat Summit, I think Pearl, Cuonzo Martin, and Rick Barnes were all good hires for men's basketball (obviously should have done a better job with the Tyndall hire), and Lane Kiffin as well as Butch Jones were good football hires. Obviously Dooley wasn't ready for the job.
UT fans are never satisfied with anything, and the pressure to fire coaches before they should be fired is what costs them the buyouts.

RE: UTC AD to resign
Whatever it is at UTC, it's certainly interesting that in the last 18 months roughly their three highest profile positions in the athletic department have ALL turned over. Maybe it's all completely unrelated, perhaps I watch too much House of Cards, but that just seems a little too fishy.

I'm gonna have to disagree here. We can agree on Tyndall and Dooley for sure, they shoulda seen the Tyndall stuff coming a mile away. I think Holly will be fired after this year, and no question both Barnes and Butch are on the hot seat, meaning they better have GREAT seasons, 9-3 for Butch and NCAA bid for Barnes. Good hires don't need great seasons in years 3 or 5 to keep their jobs. And if you think Kiffin was a good hire, then we are looking at totally different criteria to judge.

Oh, and they gave Fulmer an extension 6 months before they fired him! They're spending money like drunken sailors down there. I want no part of it.

RE: UTC AD to resign
Kiffin was an ass, but the fan base was excited about him until he left, and he left to take a better job. I don't see how that can be a failure. Barnes had the basketball team overachieve last season, beat everyone's expectations. I agree that Holly (especially) and Butch are on the hot seat, but that is what I am saying about UT fans being delusional about their program. When you are recruiting at a high level, are winning consistently (even when not competing for national championships), and graduating your players, I consider that a successful coach.
The Lady Vols aren't going to find another Pat Summit, and the football team isn't going to win a national championship in the SEC until Nick Saban retires, regardless of who their coach is. There is only 1 Nick Saban, and firing your coach because he isn't as good as Saban is silly. Just my opinion. That is all I will say about the UT program on this board- I really hate that school and their ugly orange.

I don't know him or anybody at UTC. This is pure speculation on my part. But when you look at pictures of him when he was hired, and compare with the ones now, he looks different, and thinner, particularly in the face and temples. I sincerely hope he isn't ill.
