God...I don't think any OSU fans understand what being "turned down" actually means. That's priceless that a coach of a small private school in Omaha, NE did it lol

That search is drifting into "Overpay" territory to save face.

RE: OT: Ohio state head coach Thad Matta let go
If a coach is truly happy where he is and where he wants to be, he will turn down higher profile jobs. People think every coach is just waiting for the next step up all the time. Yea most coaches want to advance and get to the very best place possible for them... but that place is not always a more high profile gig. Huggs turned down some great jobs to stay at UC over the year. Chris Peterson at Boise spurned offers from program after program (including USC) before going to Washington. It's not always easy to know where a coach wants to be or how a coach views a job. A coach may value his specific job more than the nation as a whole.

It is priceless that the big bad P5 school with $$$$ to throw at candidates is getting so many rejections.
They must be in shock. It's expected that the 'mid-tier' coaches want to be at OSU.

I'd take the job, but I wouldn't want to have to wear clothes with a big zero and a marijuana leaf on them.

That's a good hire for them. They were never going to pull a big fish like some of their delusional fans thought...he knows the Midwest, can coach, and could probably do quite well there. Still can't believe OSU fired a 49 year old, who is their most successful coach ever, won 3/4 of his games at OSU, and who never had anything even minorly resembling a scandal in 13 years at the helm.

If you followed Thad the past two or three seasons you can understand why OSU let him go. His health is declining, and he was unable to keep kids on the team. I am quite surprised they were going to give him another year. Most the media believed Thad deserved another year, but recruiting was a big issue.

If they used his health as a genuine reason, he should sue the **** out of them given OSU was the reason for those health issues (a botched back surgery at Wexner caused him to lose the ability to use his right foot) AND you cannot discriminate based on disability, whether natural or medically induced especially when it does not preclude you from doing your job.
He went to the second round of the NCAA Tourney in 2015, was a bubble team in 2016, and lost 4/5 starts and 7 core contributors in 2017 but still managed an above .500 record. The dude is a good, borderline great, coach and they just threw him out because Ohio State fans are idiots and think that challenging for NC's in basketball is norm, when realistically, Matta was the only reason why they did that in the first place. I'm fine with it, keeping OSU down for a few more years is a great thing for UC, but to argue that he should've been fired is ludicrous. And he was fired, regardless of what he said through gritted teeth at that press conference.
By that argument, Matt Painter should've been fired in 2014, and I'm sure Purdue fans are happy that that didn't happen.

Thad deserved to lose his job and if he had been fired at the end of the season not many would have complained. Plus they would have had significantly more interest in the job.
His teams were getting worse each season and his recruiting was way off. He didn't get fired for his health he got fired for lack of performance on the court. His health certainly impacted his recruiting so it's an indirect cause.
Giving him one more year would have been a disaster and would cost them another recruiting class. Overall a great coach at OSU but he had the plane nose down and headed towards the ground fast. Don't tell me his average cruising altitude was 20,000 feet when he's 100 feet from impact.
I enjoy OSU being bad at basketball so one more year would have been fun to watch.

You can fire a person for a disability IF the disability causes them to be unable to perform an essential job function.
But that's not what happened here. He was fired due to poor performance.
No matter how delusional OSU is about their expectations, it's still hard to argue that Matta has met his boss's expectations over the past 4 years.
