RE: Rice Baseball vs. ODU: In search of .500
Watching on my phone... Air traffic control decides to end the ground hold so we take off in the top of the 9th. First time I've wished for a longer delay. Go owls!

Strikeout ends the game.
Rice 4-3.
We're going to have to get our s*** together if we are going deep this postseason.

+1. We won't win against better teams when we have 4 errors.

Vintage Otto-man. 1-2-3 9th, with two Ks against the heart of the Monarch order.
Ugly game that was not pretty and certainly not well played in any aspect, but we were opportunistic on offense, and we had Otto.
Game Ball #1: Glenn Otto (Save #9, 3.1 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, 4Ks)-- what can you say, it was as good a clutch relief outing as one can have. Total dominance; total control. When he's got the hammer curve going, he's virtually unhittable.
Game Ball #2: Darryn Sheppard (1-4, 2 RBIs)-- with the game-winner in the 5th inning. clutch!
Game Ball #3: Dayne Wunderlich (0-4)-- in a game of horrid defense, he had the game-saving defensive play in the 3rd inning, robbing what would have been a 2-run HR, which would have given ODU a 3-0 lead and all the momentum.
And we reach the .500 mark for the first time since the end of opening weekend in Austin....and earn a MUCH-needed day off. We need to get the offense back on track, as it's cooled off the last 3 - 4 games...and it's not as if we've faced good pitching the last two days (or the last two games vs. UAB).
Rest up and come out ready to win that first game on Saturday and advance to the championship game. Go Owls!

They gave Otto the W, and not the Save. Not sure why given he came in with Rice leading 4-3, but whatever.

Esquivel pitched less than 5 innings, and since Kravetz and Jefferies each pitched only briefly, it was the scorekeepers' option to award the win to Otto.

To help set the biological clock for tomorrow morning's 9:00am start, the team wisely woke up early (despite the off day) this morning to partake in a light practice at a nearby high school. I like the mental approach to this.
