2017 Men's B-ball Recruiting Update
According to Verbalcommits, 6-10 JUCO Transfer, Troy Van Ry has committed to The University of Texas at San Antonio. He had an offer from Toledo as well. With that said, and with Lucas Antunez officially leaving the Program, I like Pono's idea about using that available scholarship on Kansas Transfer, 6-9 Power Forward, Dwight Colbey. Even though it's for only 1 Season, he could serve the same purpose as Steve Taylor Jr. and help Luke Knapke and Taylor Adway in the paint this upcoming season. Even with the addition of Colbey, it is imperative that Toledo Recruit a Power Forward and Center for the 2018 Class as we can't continue to rely on 1 year Transfers.

With UT officially announcing Littleson's signing today, I'm afraid that will be it, and no new players will be on board for next season.

Disappointed that we didn't get a low post player who would be able to contribute next season. Didn't even have to be a "star"--just someone who could give us 10-15 minutes a game, more when Knapke gets in foul trouble, and with a body type that would fill some space in the lane. Hopefully Adway continues to improve in the off-season--maybe he's the secret weapon?

Even with Littleson's signing today, we still have 1 scholarship available for next season. If we sign a 1 year guy like Colbey, we will have 2 scholarships available for the 2018 Class with the only other player graduating next year being Tre'Shaun Fletcher.

Correct, expect rockets to go for a big and a ballhandling guard in 2018 class, wings and small forward is set. Btw no info on coleby to UT just a good fit w a connection to us

doesn't look like coleby considering UT, although he is looking at mid majors
Oh, well.
Last year, our late signing need for the next season was a ball-handling point guard, and TK landed Dzierzawksi (wasn't here long enough for me to know if I spelled his name correctly) & Antunez. Two swings & misses there.
This time, our late signing need for next season is a low post player. TK & staff have identified targets--we've given offers to more than a couple--but as of the moment everyone else has gone to other schools--mid-majors, in fact. There has to be a 6'8" or 6'9" JUCO out there somewhere who averaged 5 or 6 points a game & who would like to play his final 2 seasons at Toledo, wouldn't you think? As I've said before, I'm not even hoping for a "3-star" kind of player...just someone who can bang in the paint and gives us a different look at both ends of the court for 12 minutes or so a game. That, combined with what TK does have coming in, would be a pretty decent starting point for the next couple seasons.

I'm thinking you may see James Gordon in the middle next year. He may be only 6-5, but hopefully could become a Franco House type player for us. At least give us some minutes, as he develops, and gets bigger... Don't see him as the type of player that will get pushed around much in the paint, since he looks pretty solid...

Youngstown State's new coach got a late start after taking his team to the DII national finals, but has still signed quite a few players. Here's a link on three JC big men. Also signed 6-6 Ohio all-stater Naz Bohannan who averaged 17/9 and was Lorrain County's top player. http://www.ysusports.com/sports/mbkb/201...rn-release

Gordon didn't look particularly stout to me...certainly not as muscular as Franco House. Thought he played on the wing in high school? Big gamble if he's going to be our low post sub next season. I remember Tino Valencia, who somehow did own the paint at 6'5" so it can be done. Not my first choice though.

I like the term "own the paint." I remember Tino.
A decent clod gives them a shot at a MAC title, IMO.
Defense was a common complaint last year - as it should have been - as it sits now, they won't stop anyone who posts them up.
Defensive PIP matters. Gordon is no help.

Gordon can play guard or small forward. The staff raved about his improvement during his rs year, so he may surprise some folks, but he is not a post player.

RE: 2017 Men's B-ball Recruiting Update
Barring some late addition to the roster, we will be small and somewhat inexperienced inside. Our back-up centers will be Hill and Adway. Our power forwards will be those two plus Navigato. I'm guessing we will see Jackson or Fletcher playing out of position at the 4 on occasion.
Comparing Gordon to Franko House is very optimistic.

He is an ambidextrous shooter which should cause some confusion. Hopefully, he can overcome that.

The offense is really 3 guards plus 2 bigs so we often have a SG , a PG and a combo guard on the floor at the same time.

True, and in the MAC you can get away with one of the "bigs" being a strong 6'5" guy (Lauf or, this year, Jackson) or a scrawny, outside-shooting 6'8" guy (Navigato).

Navigato plays like a guard but he is listed as 6'8 215 on the roster, an inch shorter than Adway at 6'9 215. Losing Taylor and Lauf subtracts over 18.5 rebounds a game. Adway, Knapke, Fletcher, Willie Jackson and Logan Hill need to take up some that slack. Jackson seems to offer the most promise for inside scoring and rebounding.

There are a lot of inflated heights on the basketball roster.

RE: 2017 Men's B-ball Recruiting Update
I wonder if Coach K is keeping the 1 scholarship available for a possible mid year transfer. We have gotten 3 mid year transfers that I recall during his tenure-one never played a single minute and another only stayed half a season. There is a gamble involved with transfers but it seems he likes to roll the dice.
