Yeah, and I honestly don't see him being up to INTL level soon anyways. Also, news broke today that '18 WC is likely to be Fabian Johnson's swan song with the USMNT, so add LB to the pile of things we need and have no future prospects in
Center backs take a little longer to develop tactically than some other positions. It easy to forget that he is only 19. I'd like to see him go play in the Championship for a year. and if John Terry is serious about mentoring young players, CCV could do worse than studying under him at Villa.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. You very rarely see INTL Level CBs under about 24 years old...and Villa would seem like a strong loan situation IF that's an option.

We just made a bid today. We are debating the fact that we are going to be overpaying but if he gets us to UCL then it'll be worth the overpaying now. Also a lot of our current targets are drawing out. I'm not sure if it's cause we were on our preseason trip, prepping for Europa, or because we are trying to figure out exactly who we want as the final pieces.

What do you expect when you throw an MLS side out there? We don't have any of our regular European based players this tournament. Yes, Deuce is good, but he is also aging.
Do I want to win the Gold Cup? YES! Is this the A squad, no.
Exactly...I think once you add in Pulisic, Wood, Cameron, Johnson, etc. (in their natural positions!) this team will get much better very quickly. I will say this though, I think Arriola has shown a lot this tournament and would be happy to see him on rosters moving forward.
Yup. This squad is missing its best player(Pulisic), their starting backline(Yedlin, Johnson, Brooks and Cameron), and arguably their best number 9 in Wood.
I like Arriola as well. He would be a great little spark plug coming off the bench with the full squad.
I think all this tournament really demonstrated for the US is that we still do not have a lot of depth behind our usual top group. There are a few players who showed well enough in this tournament to be considered for a potential Russian World Cup Squad, but we also saw a lot of players who showed they are not ready.
The concern is that this is Dempsey and Howard's last World Cup Cycle in All Likelihood, Bradley and Altidore are no Spring Chickens. We're going to have to find replacements for those guys sooner rather than later.
We need to somehow convince athletes to not play football and basketball. If Lebron had grown up as a soccer player we would be talking a different tune

According to ESPN, the MLS just turned down a global media rights deal worth in excess of $4B annually (quadruple their current rights) for when the current deal runs out in 2022...the only secondary stipulation was a requirement that the US/MLS Soccer system move to a Pro/Rel. If they're willing to turn down 4x the money there is absolutely no way we're ever getting Pro/Rel in America...

And the bid was apparently rejected. $45 million.

I just read about that. Apparently, MLS declined it because there current deal isn't up yet and those networks have exclusive renewal rights. In reality, IMO, MLS can't be talking relegation when trying to add new teams. Bids won't be as high.

Still seems like the ol' cutting off your nose to spite your face type situation. The franchise fees are small potatoes when compared with the media shares for the contract itself...they're just trying to find every reason in the book to not do it.
Also, exclusive renewal isn't necessarily a thing...ESPN always negotiates a right of first refusal which basically means they can match any offer received. Effectively, by them breaking this story, they can see what kind of momentum this sort of thing has before the offer is actually made in earnest a few years from now. They're playing both sides.

smh. You dont see a lot of 6'8" 260 lb soccer players for a reason. Your point wouldve been better if you said Chris Paul.

The MLS can't negotiate tv rights until 2021 and has specific negotiating windows in their current contracts. Silva knew that when it was offered. If there was a chance in hell MLS could've accepted, he wouldve never offered.
It's a stupid media stunt, plain and simple.

Villa expressed interest last year....of course, things change.
Leeds was interested earlier this summer.

Rejected again. Swansea holding firm to the 50 million number.
I admit, I like this new Swansea. Someone finally stopped giving Huw Jenkins control of transfers and its working. He's the best player on the club, and is likely what saved us from relegation last year. Everton has to up the offer, or we'll stick him back with the first team and move on.

More than just a media stunt, it's Silva prepping for a lawsuit like the USFL one but against US Soccer. He's talking about pumping money into the other NASL clubs as well.

He's basically trying to pull a Lamar Hunt from the mid 90's. That's effectively what caused the MLS to be the top-flight league in the US...and I could legitimately see it working again if teams like Sacramento and Cincinnati are still left out and drawing more than most of the big clubs.

I seem to recall that USFL lawsuit not getting the desired result they wanted. I predict that will happen here as well.

I agree, though I suppose it involving the federation would make things interesting, maybe force them into allowing for an open and independent structure alongside the MLS-USL version.

Everton said that Ross Barkley would not be with the team this season. I'm assuming that Spurs and Everton have agreed to a valuation for them to say that.
