AP poll vs playoff champ
With the p5 having their own p5 champion winner doesn't mean they are AP #1, AP is separate and ANY team can be AP#1, so if a team, say Temple finishes AP#1 and Clemson wins p5 playoffs who is the real champion ?

RE: AP poll vs playoff champ
AP is irrelevant now that we have a de facto playoff. No more competing polls; it's settled on field.

So you say...irrelevant, de facto, you have a frickin committee to decide for you for heavens sake
AP will always be important, I guess it's safe to say then that the AP is irrelevant to you p5 people

What do you figure the odds are that would ever happen? If a G5 team is not ranked in the Top 4 before a playoff starts, how are they going to move ahead of a team who is, and who wins 2 more games against Top 4 opponents?
The only way this could happen is if the G5 is ranked #4 in the AP poll, and the team ranked #5 wins the CFP championship. If the G5 were ranked higher than #4 by the AP, they would almost certainly be in the playoff as well. And, frankly, they probably would be even if they were only ranked #4.

What has already happened twice with BYU? They haven't been in the discussion for a very long time.

Personally, I think there would be a lot more pressure to include a G5 that was good enough to be close to the Top 4 than there would be to exclude them.

The odds? Well the p5 committee will not select a team out side of the p5 club, not going to be a problem for them anyway because p5 schools are trying not to schedule teams not in the p5, just one component of p5 master plan that is really working out good for them, well all the others are too, so the AP is the only route for the rest of the FBS programs to have a real chance at an AP #1

So, what then? One in a hundred years, one in a thousand? I think the days of a BYU getting ranked #1 by beating a 6-6 team in a minor bowl are over. If Houston hadn't folded up this year, I believe they would have been in the playoff. But then they went and demonstrated that they were't as good as voters thought they were.

I think the odds are better for a non p5 FBS school to achieve Ap#1 status than being selected by a p5 committee
If Houston had gone undefeated so soon in the committee process I think it would have caused some public issues for them but as time goes on it will just be the norm not to expect them to include a non p5 team, imo

For the reasons I've already stated, I disagree with you on both counts. For the miniscule difference in payouts to have a G5 in the playoff instead of one of the other NY6 bowls, it just isn't worth the PR hit a selection committee and the P5 conferences themselves would take by excluding a clearly (or even marginally) deserving G5 team.
As for the AP, the only way they could vote a G5 #1 after the playoff is over (assuming they were excluded from the playoff) is to vote them #1 before the playoff starts. There is no way the #1 team in the Week 15 poll is going to be excluded from the playoff.

Can you list all of the P5 teams that refuse to play non-P5 teams?
Thanks in advance!

Nobody seriously believes the majority of AP voters would ever select the G5 team #1 in the final poll. Hell, only 3 voters in the final 2010 AP poll voted Mountain West TCU #1 following that season. Not a single vote for 14-0 Boise State the year before.
