RE: AAC P6 articles
ESPN has posted their "conference power rankings"
It listed 5 conferences, and the AAC wasn't one of them. How come our "media partner" won't help spread the "P6" narrative, Aresco?

My guess that would be in the negotiations.

Espn would need to offer us something special to negotiate a long term extension. I don't think anything happens until late 2018 at the earliest. Likely we go back to the open market again.

ESPN's post draft way too early colllege top 25 came out...listed Boise State at 24 as "Top Group of Five" team Listed USF five spots higher with no mention of G5 or mid-major or nothin'.
P6 is sinking in. Cultural change takes time.

Granted, more about poor editing, than a P6 lean...but maybe that happened with an AAC school and never would slipped by if that were, say, last year's darling WMU
Ohio State springs forward as new No. 1 in 2017 top 25 http://es.pn/2pMOYDv

RE: AAC P6 articles
I would like to see us leave ESPN and sign a fat deal with NBC sports. ESPN is bleeding. They overpaid for college athletics and all these huge deals are not going to be renewed at the current rate next time around. Good riddance.
If NBC wants into the college sports game the AAC would be there for them.
The other network that I'd like to sign with that has the money is Fox. What the heck, the B12 is gone in five years anyway. Hopefully the AAC is talking to Fox now.

What is crazy is nbc could likely land the aac for what they are paying Purdue and 1/2 Rutgers pay. Then they get an entire conference of content plus high level hoops. $60 million NBC...you can hurt espn out of content.

Hey BEH, we had a deal! But I can take a joke. I don't care about a P6 narrative, I care about the money. Aresco needs to be stepping it up. Also, you always call espn the "WWL". I won't. They don't consider the AAC a "power conference" so I won't call them what they want to be called...

You're seriously getting upset about World Wide Leader? That is a silly slogan.
Why are you getting upset with Aresco? It is 90% up to the member schools to show value. So that means full stadiums, high level hoops, high level football, and P5 home games that attract TV $$$. Aresco can help with his TV background but it is really up to the league and how much demand we have for our content. We have a few schools "cough" Tulsa that play in a tiny stadium and Tulane that hasn't been competitive in any major sport without a large fanbase. Getting $5 million would be a great step in the right direction with great coverage.

Aresco needs to work out something with our media partner ESPN to at least get the AAC included on their website's "conference power rankings"....it lists 5 conferences. Not 6. Aresco is pushing this P6 narrative but our media partner won't even mention The AAC in their college football pre season rankings. How hard would it be for espn to list all 10 FBS conferences? Not hard at all. Don't you think it's telling what espn is doing to the AAC?

He is trying. We can't force espn to call us anything right now. It is possible with negotiations we can force them to use p6 in graphics. I would take $1 million less per team just for that alone.

I would too....perception is reality. I remember 10 years ago when the MWC and CUSA both went rouge and left ESPN. ESPN basically boycotted both conferences. That was wrong, with they said, the AAC was loyal to espn by signing 100% with espn. It would be nice to see that loyalty returned.

I kind of see it like this we were the equivalent of a guy trying to buy a new car with bad credit and only a grand for a down payment and ended up driving off in a 6yr old car with a high interest rate. He can't blame the car lot for his situation half way through the contract but he can expect a much better deal when he trades in the old car with more established credit and a bigger down payment. Well know AAC has improved our credit (perception) and we have a bigger down payment (ny6 wins and ncaa championships). If they won't give a better deal then we can now go to a different car lot at least.

Agreed on going another route if they don't comply. If they won't even refer to us in their "power conference rankings" while we have a contract with them, then the fear of losing their influence by moving to fox or NBC sports is a moot point.

Wichita State could make the AAC a power six conference
emember all that talk about the University of Cincinnati joining the Big 12? Remember how it all amounted to nothing?
In case you missed it, UC made a bid to join the Big 12 six months ago, hoping to enter a power five conference. Ultimately, UC and a slew of other schools in the American Athletic Conference were denied entry into the Big 12.
Cincinnati, Houston and Memphis weren’t outright rejected by the Big 12. Instead, the conference decided that it was in its own best interest not to expand.
The non-move provided a lesson for UC and Bearcat fans: Moving to another athletic conference is by no means guaranteed, even for the most attractive candidates.
For now, it appears that UC will stay put in the AAC, whether they like it or not.
But maybe the Bearcats don’t have to join a power five conference. Maybe — just maybe — the AAC could help build a Power 6.
The recent addition of Wichita State certainly helps increase the level of competition within the conference.
-------
Building the AAC into a more competitive conference may be the most realistic way for UC to play in a power conference.
Why not? Who needs a power five when you can create a power six?
Not to throw Memphis under the bus but they were told no.
