RE: Question for ESPN cord cutters
ESPN sucks big time. I remember they show college football games that were not in the Power 5 many times back in the 1980s. They showed a Texas State VS Texas A&M game on ESPN, and almost watched Texas State pulled off an upset win. I also remembering seeing Georgia Southern and other games from the FCS level in that era. Most of the exciting games these days are not even on their networks anymore. North Dakota State games VS a P5 opponent would have a lot of people watching it. The Oklahoma State game against Central Michigan, UTSA and Central Arkansas could have been fun to watch with high scoring from both teams. ESPN wind up showing games that sucked big time.

My question is do you not like college football? Because I know of no other way to watch most of the significant in-season games. (I think the playoff games were on ABC.)

If you rely on NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox national carries, you're getting only a small number of choices.

A lot of people are sharing accounts. I haven't "cut the cord" yet, so to speak, but I let my mom use my Amazon Prime account and she lets me use her HBO and Netflix accounts. If I do cut the cord, I will also be using her ESPN account if I need it, but it also helps that I am an ODU fan so unless it is a bowl game or maybe 1-2 basketball games per year, we won't be found on the ESPN networks anyway. My wife hates football so, while I follow it and watch the highlights, it really isn't worth using any good faith marriage capital to watch Wisconsin and Northwestern play, which is the type of game that ESPN carries week in and week out.

that's why shitflix filed.....

what a cf this is turning into.....

good luck legislating all that bs....

Cutting the cable cord was the best decision I ever made. I am a die hard college football fan so I made sure that what I supplemented for cable would still allow me to watch college football. I use Playstation Vue and have all of the ESPN's, and other sports channels. My Directv bill was $175. Now I pay $49.99.

You chose that Directv package and you can lower it any point you want to. So it's not apples to apples comparing something you wanted/picked/chose EVERYTHING to something you only wanted a few channels.

For under $50 a month on Direct you can get everything you get with Playstation Vue.

People complain about high prices...when they picked the package when lowers ones are there for the choosing.

We had Direct for 6 years now....in the first year when you are getting the discount we take the 150 channel package for $69.00 on 3 TVS. We also got 3 months of movies channels and NFL Sunday package for one year. The 2nd year when you are paying about $109 for the package we got. I lower it to the 99 channel (something like that..it changes) and pay $72 on 3 TVs.

After the contract runs out..it goes in my wife's name and we start over with the free movie channels and we do this (switching names) every two years. During football season we add foxsports for $13 a month and get all the regional sports channels. And DVR in all 3 rooms.

So for those that say they pay this high price....you are choosing one of their highest packages

Exactly. Rather than air a good game like Southern Miss vs Fla State back in the old days they want us to believe that a game like Wake Forest vs Purdue is a big deal because its "p5". People arent that stupid. Espn has almost ruined college football. Espn can eff off.

No that is incorrect. For the $50 package plan for Directv you only get ESPN ESPN2 and FOX Sports1.

https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/pepod/con...ge-section

With my Playstion Vue plan I get ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, FOX College Sports Atlantic, Central, and Pacific, Fox Sports Deportes, FOX Sports 1 and 2, MLB, NFL, NBA channels, SEC and BIG10 channels.

https://www.playstation.com/en-us/network/vue/channels/

Playtion Vue offered more sports channels at a cheaper price that what directv offered. I was paying the higher price because the lower packages didn't offer those other channels. SoI had to choose the higher packages. Also Playstion Vue does not offer contracts and have the price go up after the contract expires like Directv does.

I'm still coming out better without having to do all that switching out like you are doing. I don't care for the movie channels because I don't watch that much tv. But if I did I can add them for $15 dollars a month and still come out cheaper than what you pay.

I can also have Playstion Vue on 5 devices at the same time and it comes with dvr.

Yep. I don't even have ESPN. I haven't seen a Monday Night Football game since they went to ESPN. Sorry, but it's too much to pay for a channel that has mostly drivel on it. And announcers that talk about certain teams ALL THE TIME to the exclusion of other teams. At a minimum it has to limit the potential audience.

That's my beef with ESPN. All they talk about and all they show are the same teams every year. It's just boring if you didn't go to one of those select schools. I'm not one to pull for a school I didn't actually attend, so I just choose to watch other channels, etc.

You can save enough by cutting cords (on multiple accounts) to now afford to attend more games in person.

For those claiming ESPN's liberal positions had no impact on their problems...

Quote:ESPN’s sweeping staff cuts are not just the result of ambitious TV rights deals and an overburdened budget, popular “SportsCenter” anchor Linda Cohn suggested Thursday.

The network may be losing subscriber revenue not just because of cord-cutting, Cohn allowed, but because viewers are increasingly turned off by ESPN inserting politics into its sports coverage.

“That is definitely a percentage of it,” Cohn said Thursday on 77 WABC’s “Bernie and Sid” show when asked whether certain social or political stances contributed to the stupor that resulted in roughly 100 employees getting the ax this week. “I don’t know how big a percentage, but if anyone wants to ignore that fact, they’re blind.”

Cohn agreed with the argument that certain sports fans may have disapproved of the way ESPN covered polarizing figures such as Roger Goodell, Colin Kaepernick and Caitlyn Jenner.

The example used was of the 2015 ESPYs. Jenner, a former Olympic champion in the decathlon, won the prestigious Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for publicly coming out as a transgender woman. Some felt athletes suffering from disease or disability — such as college basketball player Lauren Hill, who died from cancer three months before the ceremony, and marathoner Noah Galloway, who lost an arm and a leg in the Iraq War — were more deserving.

What a bunch of crap. This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with cord cutting.

No one I know even watched the stupid ESPYS

It's definitely both. However, I agree it has more to do with cord cutting.
