Carney was the Indianapolis HS POY, so it wasn't like he was some goof who turned into a great player. He had been offered by Kelvin Sampson at OU, too. Apparently he didn't play AAU so he was not as scouted and most kids.
DJ was a hidden gem who averaged 4 ppg in his college career. He had two invaluable assets 1): a 46 inch vertical and 2) a great attitude
Stanley was neither the state POY nor in possession of some extraordinary physical attribute.

How does a coach know that until they see him for themselves, much like Tubby did. Could have been a sleeper. Apparently Tubby didn't think so.
You recruit sleepers with no D1 offers in two cases and two cases only. One, you have a lot of talent on the roster at the sleeper's position, or two, you are in desperation/panic mode.
I'd say they were desperate. You basically start over in April with 3 years cumulative D1 experience. They needed players.
Tubby said he didn't offer. The dad refutes this and took the time to speak to media outlets. He could have sent his written proof to the commercial appeal, but failed to do so.
I don't think they offered, but it wouldn't matter that they did. I trust the experience of the staff to evaluate talent.
This story has absolutely no legs...
Clearly, once a gain you are completely confused. When you say no legs, is that your way of saying that virtually every national media outlet made a big deal out of it and mocked us? Why does the dad have to prove anything? The dad claims it and the coach claims the kid called him. Clearly, they all thought he had an offer. The father doesn't have to prove a damn thing to anyone and why would he go to the media at risk of being called out publicly if there was no offer?

And this is one of the problems with you. You trust a coach who went from Kentucky to Minnesota, and then incredibly another step lower than Minnesota, who has 1 (ONE) NCAA win in the last 10 years.

The father took this to the media. Took the time to be interviewed on radio and the local paper. Tubby denies he offered, if the dad had an offer, why didn't he produce it? Maybe because he never had a scholarship offer.
What really embarrassed the program was hiring Keelon. A guy that publicly pimped his kids. Ones that screw up wherever they go.
Yeah, I trust Tubby. He's been a winner.
Are we a step lower than Minnesota and TT? Because we hired the guy.

Not in the last 12 years. The kid, the coach and the dad wouldn't have gone on tour if he didn't have an offer.

Tubby did pretty good at schools that are tough to win at. Period. He's won where lots of others haven't. TT wanted him to stay, they were happy with him.
As far as this Stanley nonsense goes, the dad reached out to the media. Tubby denied making the offer. I think he would have shared his written proof if he actually had it to prove his story. He didn't.
Again, I could care less if he had an offer. I think we had about 7 open scholarships available at the time. But I don't think he had an offer.
But, if it makes you feel better, then think what you want.

I speculate the kid was offered in some form, but the Dad misunderstood (the kid did not attract much D1 interest so the Dad had little experience). Regardless, we should never waste time and treasure on D2 recruits.
