And lost another series. They seem to have regressed from last year.

They did lose to UAPB... that should've been the first clue.

UAPB has lost games to Ole Miss, 6-5, and to Mississippi state 11-8. Apparently, they are not a push-over. Baseball, is the one sport where anybody can beat anybody on a given day, if you have one good pitcher who has a great day. Not arguing that our season has not been disappointing so far.

Take a look at the pitchers era's. That'll tell you a lot. We don't seem to have that stopper than you can count on every weekend, to get you win.

So how long do you put up with that? It's been three years and little has changed when it comes to pitching. You can't just keep losing year in, year out and fall back on the argument of "anybody can beat anybody". Is it true? Yes, but those loses are piling up.

It seems like the pitching is the major problem right now, and has been in the past. We evidently don't have D-1 pitching, and for some reason we can't get it. Our coach is a former catcher, and should definitely know something about pitching, so maybe it's our pitching coach who doesn't recognize talent, or can't close the deal on talent. Other than that, Coach seems to be able to find pretty good hitters, and defensive players, and they always seem sound on fundamentals. I really like Coach, but he should be producing more by now, and we seem to be regressing.

I agree that it is pitching, specifically the bullpen, where we continue to come up short. We do not seem to have trouble scoring runs, just holding leads.

Little Rock baseball has been at about the same level (not very good), in the 35 years I have lived here. So there is a lot more going on then any particular coach. I doubt we are ever going to get a better person and coach here than Coach Curry. Last season was our best Sun Belt season, ever. Maybe we have regressed some, but the season is far from over. I don't expect any miracles here, but Coach Curry will have a team that is competitive in the league more years than not.

You guys are in the same boat as us. You're not going to become a consistently competitive team in this conference without first putting substantial resources into the baseball program.
There's only so much you can do recruiting kids to Gary Hogan.

The new baseball field will definitely help!

Speaking of the headaches ADs have, what about the politics of naming new facilities?

Well when the Coleman Family gives you the land that makes the baseball stadium possible, I don't think naming that stadium will be a difficult choice!

The land is an essential and, much appreciated, first step. But, paying for the construction of a stadium will require a lot of cash and, likely, a big donor. A new stadium, might make us more able to compete in the Sun Belt, but it will take time to match the tradition of programs like ULL and USA, and now the reigning National Champion, Coastal Carolina..

Baseball getting some momentum
Today would be a great time to go to a game. We play La Tech tonight at 6 and the temperature should be 81 at game time. Course if you aren't coming to Gary Hogan tonight for the Trojans you can always go to Dickey-Stephens and watch the Hogs.
