RE: Seahawks in the Pros
Aug 19 update:
Evan Phillips made his 18th appearance of the season for the Orioles, but once again struggled mightily. In an inning of work at Yankee Stadium, he allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking 2. On the 2019 season he's 0-1 with an 8.84 ERA and 2.22 WHIP on 19.1 IP, with 29 K's and 17 BB's.
Ryan Jeffers (Twins system) has played 11 games at the AA level (Pensacola), and is hitting .308 with 3 HR and 6 RBI in 39 AB's. At 22 years old he still has plenty of developing to do, and as a 2018 2nd round pick, the Twins are certainly invested in his development. It would be huge if he could get promoted to AAA either nearing the end of the season or in 2020.
Austin Warren (Angels system) has made 5 appearances for AA Mobile, with his most recent appearance coming on Aug 16. He's 1-1 with a sterling 1.29 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 7.0 innings of work, with 9 K's and 5 BB's. The former 6th round pick is 23 years old and could also find himself in AAA by 2020.
Robbie Thorburn (Orioles system) had a nice weekend for the A+ Frederick Keys. He went 4-12 with a Double and 2 RBI against Fayetteville. He lifted his average at the A+ level to .214 and now has 4 RBI in 126 AB's. Not great, but some positive news. However, at 24 and as a 2017 31st round pick he's running out of time.
Casey Golden (Rockies system) continues to rack up nice numbers for A+ Lancaster. He's hitting .268 with 23 HR and 60 RBI in 351 AB's. However, he turns 25 on Sep 1. Hopefully the 2017 20th round pick will get a promotion to AA before the season ends. He may need to lift his average and OBP (.367) to make that happen.
Alex Royalty (Indians system) is struggling at A Lake County. He made his 21st start of the season on Aug 16 and took his 7th loss of the season, allowing 3 ER on 5 H over 5.0 innings while striking out 4 and walking 5. On the season at the A level, he's now 5-7 with a 4.42 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 87 K's and 42 BB's in 95.2 innings. Given that he's still just 22, was an 8th round pick and does have a solid K/BB ratio, he still has plenty of time to prove himself in the Indians system.
Clark Cota (A's system) is performing well at A- Vermont. In his last 2 outings he's pitched scoreless innings, allowing just 2 baserunners (1 BB, 1 HP) and striking out 1. In 16 appearances he's 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP with 36 K's and 18 BB's. The 2018 10th rounder turns 23 in October and will hopefully get a promotion to A ball soon.
Seth Frankoff (Doosan Bears, KBO) has gotten 16 starts for Doosan in the Korean Baseball Organization and has performed fairly well. He is 5-7 with a 4.18 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 75 K's and 22 BB's in 84.0 innings of work. At 30 years old he's carved out a nice pro career to this point.
No news on Chris Hatcher since my last update.
