Former Huskie Aksel Bolin Leads Team to Norwegian Championship
DEKALB, Ill. – Former Northern Illinois University men's basketball player Aksel Bolin led his Norwegian professional team, Centrum Tigers, to its second-straight league championship while earning Player of the Year honors earlier this month. Bolin helped lead the Tigers to an 87-74 victory over Gimle in the BLNO Playoff Final on April 2.
In five playoff games, Bolin averaged 22.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, helping his Oslo-based team to the title. In the championship game, Bolin posted a double-double, his fourth of the playoffs, with 28 points and 12 rebounds on his way to earning MVP honors.
Bolin, a native of Akser, Norway, finished the regular season averaging 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game; EuroBasket.com named Bolin the BLNO Player of the Year as well as Guard of the Year and Domestic Player of the Year. In the league honors handed out on March 22, Bolin was named to the five-player BLNO All-Star Team.
A four-year letterwinner at NIU from 2010-14, Bolin finished his Huskie career with 671 points and 460 rebounds while appearing in 114 career games. As a senior in 2013-14, Bolin shot 42.2 percent from three-point range in conference action, third-best in the MAC.
