Why is it hard for people to accept that two things can be true at the same time? Pastner was a bad coach and did not fit here. Tubby may have been a bad hire. Both may be true. It is not necessarily an either or situation.
Tubby may be the best or worst coach in tiger basketball history but it doesn't change the pastner history
We won't know until he puts his pieces and philosophical strategies in place. Jeremiah seemed ecstatic about next season!

My concern is, with the recruits he is bringing in (especially taking off last season) it will take him atleast 4 years to coach this team up and put his pieces and philosophical strategies in place to squeak into the NCAA with a first round loss. This just doesn't excite me at all. He has not broken .500 in conference since KY using his pieces and philosophical strategies and he was horrible at Texas Tech. His best year was 19-13 with a 9-9 conference record. While people want to say he has won every where he has been, that is not entirely true at Texas Tech where he had an overall losing record.

I respect your perspective and perception regarding Tubby but if this were true, why did the fans and TT AD go above and beyond to not let Tubby go? Tubby took TT to the NCAA tourney last season. Why are we so driven by past performances? It does not take away from the fact that the guy can flat out coach. I think he feels he can win at a high level here because we have the resources and amenities to get the type
of players he needs in order to win. Too much speculation and emphasis on his past
records. Does he have the ability to turn this program around? I believe he does.

Well, that is the problem. We all thought being at Memphis would give him opportunities with a higher level of player. He would scale up. Unfortunately, he seems to be recruiting the exact same level of players he recruited at Texas Tech. While that might have been fantastic at Texas Tech, it is not good at all here. He is in year 2 now and has the same talent level he had during his losing seasons at Texas Tech. How is he going to turn that around in the next few weeks to bring in the players he needs in order to win? Jimario Rivers was the 13th ranked Juco. The players he is bringing in now are lower than Rivers. 5 Jimario Rivers is not going to take us where we need to be any time soon.

No fan of GP but he is not wrong, Tubby brought it upon himself. All he had to do was find another spot for his son that has done nothing and this wouldn't have happened.
Also why is Easterwood banned now? Hmmm mess all over the place these days

The kid's name is Matt Stanley. He's excited he got the offer and will be here this weekend on a recruiting visit. Based on what I've seen of the kid...he could develop into a special talent in regards to the role he plays on this team.
What have you seen other than the YouTube video?

if he'd just switched Keelon and Saul, this program wouldn't be in free fall

Are we living in the Twilight Zone or what? Geoff and Mark are telling Tubby Smith what he needs to do to win here. This is downright right comical. No breaking sports news to cover, huh? A sports columnist and a Memphis basketball beat writer telling an experienced D1 head coach over 40 years what he needs to do to win here? Unbelievable!!

If not the Twilight Zone, it's at least The Outer Limits. Between Parrish telling them who they should talk to and these two guys laying out there plan, it's kind of amusing. Everyone seems to think they know more than the likely Hall of Fame coach who is living and breathing the situation every day.

If you saw him play you know that he could not play D-1 basketball for 20 minutes per game. EVER. Last year he averaged under 9 minutes per game on a team that could not make the NIT.

I think Tubby sees the Memphis program as a vehicle to be used. First to help his son and then feather the nest "for the grandkids." Forget the present program and forget its future - don't recruit. Don't establish contacts. Don't do media PR. Tubby is the exact wrong fit for this program . but its Tubby - he don't care.

Drops mic. This is spot on. Tubby's way isn't good enough, and will take too long. It was good enough for Minnesota and TT, but is not good enough for Memphis. You can even take Pastner's last 2 years out of the equation, 4 straight years in the dance but not making it out of the first round wasn't good enough and that was the end for Pastner.
So, now all of a sudden 2 years from now we be happy to be a fringe NCAA team with a mediocre recruiting class (just assuming based on history) on the horizon? No way, no way in h***!

It wasn't good enough for Minnesota. I've said it before and I'll say it here again - the administration told me all I need to know when they hired the guy that wasn't good enough to keep his job at Minnesota.

If we don't make the dance this year or next year we for sure are not going to make it in 3 unless he strikes gold with a few players next year in recruiting.

You clearly don't understand the general progression of kids rated in the 100 range.
The center rated just ahead of Nick has averaged 3.2 ppg and 2.5 rpg in two years at Wake.
And while you're at it, look up fellow centers Chance Comanche, Isaac Humphreys, and Daniel Giddens.
