App and Troy with all buys (5). Surprisingly, and not surprisingly at the same time, Arkansas State gets only one buy and a ton of negativity. Georgia State with a new coach is riding some hype and Idaho looks to go out with a bang according to these guys. Everyone buying Troy and no one buying South means all is right with the world.
A little surprised at ULM's and GS's prognosis. Of note, I think GS and ARKST are getting a bad rap because of their offense, and they have addressed these issues a lot better than most realize. GS returning to a true triple option will be an enormous challenge for everyone in the league. Buster Faulkner was the sole reason for offense decline at ARKST, and he is not calling the shots anymore.
I don't see any of Troy, App, Arkst, or GS declining, so I expect an even stronger league this year with those four being top dogs. Idaho, Louisiana, and South will likely be in the mix and maybe one of them will move to the top tier this year.

Our players have taken this sort of thing personally for several years now which has worked out ok for us.

Quote:Southern has playmakers on the roster, but seeing as how a lot of these guys were recruited based around the option offense, and Summers looks to be moving away from it more, it can make things tough for guys to play outside what fits them best. It might just be another tough year for the Eagles.
Huh?

RE: Sun Belt Stock Exchange
We'll be breaking in a new quarterback in Shai Werts but the kid has a lot of talent. Our offense will come together if the Oline can step up and create holes for the speedy guys we have. Our major concern is defense. We struggled as the season went on last year. I don't expect things to be much better this year but there's still a lot of time to work on stuff and since Summers will have more time to work with the defense than he did last year, we might improve over time.
All in all with the TO back I expect us to spend the first half of the season trying to find our footing and then hit our stride towards the end like App State in 2014. We have a young team that can only get better from here.

Summers has a 2nd chance this year. He won t get a 3rd. I don t worry as much about our defense as others. If we get back to having a potent offense we will get back to GS football.

RE: Sun Belt Stock Exchange
Let's see AState had to find a QB last year. Didn't find it's man in spring but the two incumbents transfer out one realizing he probably isn't it and the other got cross-ways with the coaches. Basically didn't settle on a QB in fall finally defaulting to an experienced grad transfer who got the hook in game in three, the juco comes in drops his first game and then goes 8-1 after that. The RB's are back and the one power back who missed most of the season is back. Despite not starting the first three games of the season, Hansen had the 6th most passing yards for a season in AState history and tied for 4th most TD passes in a season with some guys named Ryan Aplin (2011) and Fredi Knighten (2015), yards per game average is 6th best season, 19 TD's vs 8 picks.
I'm not sure where the pessimism about the AState offense is coming from.

These guys again....
Not one, but two of them refer to USA QB Dallas Rivers (It's Dallas Davis, BTW).
One has a diatribe about how lucky the Jags were because Miss St missed a FG at the end, but obviously he has no idea that USA's kicker bounced two off of an upright in that game.
I'll also throw in that every one of them selling on ULM is crazy. Viator will have them in a bowl game very soon.

It's actually kinda funny. I guess there is a reason these guys write for Underdog Dynasty and not a legit outfit.
To his credit, we were lucky to win that game. I mean, we were Lucky Dallas Rivers (pronounced Davis) hurdled one of their best defensive players to set up a lucky touchdown reception by one of the best (luckiest?) TEs in college football. We were extremely lucky our defense was able to hold them to only a 48 yard field goal (which required no luck from their amazing kicker) after halftime. We were also lucky to bounce a kick off of each post.
I agree on ULM. I wouldn't overlook those guys this year. And when are people finally going to stop ruling Arkansas State out of contention before the season starts? Haven't we seen how this movie plays out?

Last year there were some legitimate questions at QB, WR, and O-Line, and some more complete teams like App State, who in all fairness did win a piece of the title. So you really can't fault anyone for picking App. Not picking Arkansas State could be forgiven, especially since they didn't win the conference in '15 losing three SBC games. They were one play away at Georgia Southern from not winning the title in '16.
This year they bring back the bulk of their talent and bench Buster Faulkner. They also get Troy at home. The ASU/GS matchup will be fun to watch. It's possible they don't win the title, but much of the negativity is misplaced this time around.
All that said, if you had to pick just one, you would be a fool not to pick APP, as they don't play Troy or Arkansas State. Being salty about not picking Arkansas State would be silly.

I'd buy ULM and I'm very happy we play them at home. The team we played last year was light years better than the one we saw in 2015. I'd say they and USA are the two most likely schools to really improve on last year.
I also think Texas St. will be better, but I'm thinking "better" as in 4-8 , not "better" as in bowling.

Yea kinda like Ga state. I certainly wouldn't trade GS's last five years or 30 for that matter for CrAppy's. Despite the coaching carousel. You da man.

Very much so improved. Great thing is, we will be 180 degrees better than 2016. Our schedule is tough though.

If this were the real stock market you buy low and sell high. The obvious choice is Texas St, can't get any lower.

The last guy understands what's up with stAte. Anderson has seen the writing on the wall. He has to crank it up to 11 this season and make a statement. Cauthen will have a defense. So if Anderson can turn on the offense this could be a very good year. The biggest question is whether or not Rudolph can field a workable offensive line.

ULM's schedule is really tough, but the team is WAY better. 2018 will be our year, but we will be very competitive this year.

Anyone who doesn't pick App to win has a screw loose. The three teams they skip this year are the only teams to ever beat them in Sun Belt play.
That said. Since the Sun Belt started AState has never been picked to win the conference and holds six titles outright or shared with five different head coaches (hired by two different AD's) six different offensive coordinators and five different starting QB's. At some point you would think we'd move past the well what happens when this guy leaves storyline.

How could anyone NOT buy Coastal stock? We are an FCS call up, so our stock price is literally as low as it could possibly be.
I'm not saying we are going to shock the world next year by any means, but at the same time, there is nowhere to go but up. Not much risk in buying Coastal stock when it's at a fire sale price.

Yeah with no expectations, it's easy to beat them. Georgia State and WKU struggled with the transition but it wasn't a permanent condition.

That's my point. If Coastal wins even 3 games next year, then our stock goes up compared to where it is right now. It kind of makes Coastal the easiest "buy" decision out of anyone in the conference.
