Mark Giannotto about to be on Geoff
@mgiannotto I would listen. Just received a copy of Tubby's memorandum of understanding with Memphis. Will talk about it.

He's so much better than Jason was as a beat writer. Actually willing to criticize the staff and offer his opinion on what he sees. As opposed to Jason who would just write what Josh wanted so he wouldn't lose "access"

Saying you have to fix the recruiting weakness of the staff and bring in somebody with memphis ties to recruit locally. Mentioned moving somebody to DBO position and hiring someone like Tony Madlock. Keelon blowup not inevitable, could've been kept happy if made to feel like he was part of the staff and not isolated and marginalized. Only Pooh had decent relationship with Keelon. May be too late to salvage 2018 class but you've got to act quickly to have a chance.
Basic summary

Also memorandum of understanding between tubby and school signed. There's no out without paying tubby he full amount. No mitigation if he is fired and takes another job either.

Yeah, but what does the beat writer know?
The Lawsons are a cancer and Jake McDowell is happy now.

Agreed. CA has consistently hired good, young sports writers. Micheal Cohen was really good. Now Giannotto.

Yep - Tubby needs to give Saul the position vacated by Lawson and bring in AT LEAST one new Assistant who can recruit .

Another lopsided contract completely in favor of the coach. Those who don't learn from history...

The buyout isn't the problem
The 3 mil a year for a coach that had been trending down when you coulda hired an up and comer for a lot less is the problem
Every coach has the buyout now

You're right. There's no way to meet in the middle. Coaches always get every single thing they ask for.

Oh that I absolutely agree. Could have Forbes for less than $1M or AK for 1/3 of what we gave Tubby. I believe both would have the program in a better place right now...there are others too, but I just use those as examples.
And after the Pastner ordeal, I'm not sure I would've signed another monster contract with no buyout ...

That has to be a joke. Noway the administration would be foolish enough to do that again...

Only hope is for Tubby to get so fed up that he resigns.
That is not happening. A man will do a lot of things for $12M.
What a horrible hire.

Hey, he was picked to finish 5th and he finished 5th!
And he had to deal with a player's dad!
What do you expect from a high level DI college basketball coach making north of $3 million per year?

One thing that GP said during Jason & John yesterday really stood out to me. He was in a gym talking w/ Bill Self and a guy asked Bill for a few minutes to pick his brain about coaching at the college level. Bill asked him why he wanted to be a college coach and the kid said he enjoyed coaching the game. Bill said, basically, that he should stick to coaching high school, because being an effective D1 college coach entails 90% bs and 10% coaching.
It appears that Tubby and some of his ac's (Pooh and Saul) want to coach ball, not deal with the bs. That's why this hasn't been a good fit, thus far.

Yet he sure doesn't mind if he and his son get all that $$$.
And Keelon gets none of it.

The admin. wanted the antithesis of Josh and they got it. We had plenty of talent and a great recruiting coach that was too stubborn to hire qualified assistants instead of his college teammates. Now we have a qualified X's and O's coach (with very little talent) that has no interest in recruiting who is too stubborn to demote his son in order to bring in a much needed recruiter.
