RE: Baseball Season 2017
I thought this was interesting when I noticed that Tony Cingrani was in the playoffs with the Dodgers. There's a lot of caveats (e.g. sample size, ballpark, etc.) but the HRs really standout.

with Reds:

23 IP 5.40 ERA 82 ERA+ 7.02 FIP 1.33 WHIP 9 HR 13 SO9

with LA:

19 IP 2.79 ERA 152 ERA+ 1.86 FIP 1.086 WHIP 1 HR 13 SO9

Yep, we've already officially wasted the prime of the best hitter in franchise history. Still one of the top 5 hitters in the game but his game should start regressing even though he's coming off arguably his best year. I do think he'll age well because his elite skill is strike zone discipline. He'll lose some pop but I think he could OBP around .400 as he approaches 40 which still would make him valuable

Wristband-toothpick warrior won't be back with the Nationals? What?!!

Quote:The Nationals on Friday announced that Dusty Baker would not return as the team's manager in 2018. Baker this past season led the Nationals to 97 wins a second-straight NL East title. However, the team once again failed to advance past the division series in the playoffs.

Sounds familiar...

Love to see a Dodgers-Yankees series and L.A. taking home the trophy. Must say, the Judge kid is an impressive specimen. The dude has such a sweet swing for a guy 6'8" and around two-eighty. Unreal power and he's still learning the game.

I would love it, just to hear the commissioner's defense addressing why he feels there is competitive balance in baseball despite the fact the two highest payroll teams are again in the WS.

The argument in reverse is they've had the top 2 payrolls each of the last five years and this is the first time either has made the world series. Cleveland and KC have both had good runs in recent years.Money always helps but competitive balance is no better or worse than any other sport.

There is a general correlation. You can certainly find exceptions, but the margin of error and window of opportunity are smaller for the smaller markets and this results in a higher frequency of appearances for the top 10 payrolls. The divide is only growing larger.

I don't know about you guys but IMO this World Series has been one of the best matchups in a long time. The home run derby extra innings game 5 was unreal. Game 7 starting - can't get any better than that.

Replying to @MLBRandomStats
Best OBP 2010-2017 (Min 500 GP)
Joey Votto .438
Mike Trout .410
Miguel Cabrera .405
Paul Goldschmidt .399

That means Votto could start next season 0-349 with 0 walks and 0 HBP and he would still lead the 2010's in OBP the way it currently stands

Can't recall an award decision more surprising in recent seasons than Joey Votto failing to win a Silver Slugger in 2017.

If only MLB GMs felt the same the Reds could be aided greatly in their quest to possibly be the Astros in several years. As it is he is the #2 salary hit at 1b behind Cabrera. He is amazing but this is about as good as it's going to get for this team as he tracks to free agency in 2025 at the age of 41.

He's not going to be the best hitter in baseball at 40 but his strike zone discipline will keep him being a good hitter up until that point. I see no reason he couldn't OBP/SLG around .400/.450 at that age. Not a superstar but still a good hitter at that point.

I just hope the anti-analytics crowd doesn't keep him out of the HOF due to their stubbornness.

When those hands slow down and the eyes lose a touch, and they will in the not too distant future just as sure as day follows night, great zone awareness won't mean as much.

RE: Baseball Season 2017
make bob stephenson the closer. trade suarez bring up senzel, get what you can for cozy, move scoot to short or second, live with peraza. let mez out of the battery (if he's healthy) most of the time letting tuck catch around 125 games. and he play left when schebs goes on one of his hitless tears
