Transferring to follow a coach should not be allowed. If your coach leaves fine, but you can't just bop around the country following the dude as he goes from gig to gig. Oh well, it is what it is.

I disagree. Rhoades has been Evans's mentor. Evans should be allowed to follow him, IMO.

Maybe he will go to W&M since he values academics so much

Kids commit to coaches as much as they commit to schools. Do you really think Evans viewed Rice as his dream school?

RE: of course he was there for the academics
That was sort of a too-inside joke. I sat near some Cape Henry folks (teachers) at the ODU-Rice game 2 years ago and I asked why he went all the way to Houston to play college ball (aware of him and Rhoades). The answer I got was: "Oh, he just loved the academics down there." I said, "What's he going to major in?" They said, "He doesn't know yet, he's just getting adjusted to college life."

If anyone was hoping Evans decided to get off in Emporia or South Hill to go 58 East to the Ted, apparently Rice is blocking him from all C-USA schools as well as Houston.

Supposedly that was the angle Rhoades used to get him to play there instead of for the Monarchs. "A degree from Rice will be well known and respected around the globe". That would be true too. Its just that argument holds no water if he transfers to Va. Convict U.

Marcus has the potential to be a NBA player, but he has to learn to play PG and be able to keep up defensively. His best option would be to go to an ACC school that plays up-tempo, but still requires some semblance of defense.

Agreed. But do you think he's good enough to be a major contributor at a UNC or even NC State? Maybe, but its no slam dunk. Seems he would be better off being a superstar at Rice than 6 or 7th man at Wake or VT.

RE: of course he was there for the academics
I do think he's good enough to be a contributor in the ACC. The kid can flat-out score at all three levels. But, more importantly, I think he'd benefit from the coaching at UNC, Louisville, Wake, or VT. If he wants to be a superstar and go on to a European career as a scorer, he's better off some place where he can dominate the ball and score. If he wants to put himself in the best position to be a NBA player, I'd think that would be through the ACC as a point guard (who can score).

VCU currently has 4 in the league on rosters. While only 2 are guards, they are selling NBA development along with all that great in-game college atmosphere.

I wonder who on the current roster would follow JJ?

But every ACC school is selling the same thing.

As for VCU, their two guards both have VERY distinct strengths on which they are building NBA careers (Daniels - shooting, Weber - defense). Evans isn't gifted enough in one particular area. He's going to have to learn how to be more of an all-around player than either of those guards.

Actually, the answer is none of us know, but just throw out random criticisms that no one can prove to be true or false.
