We are returning 1,357 of the 1,765 shots we took last year (77%). 2 of our 3 most inefficient guys will not be returning (Fields, Haynes) while 2 of our least often used guys (shots) will not be returning (Baker, Taylor).

Unless Godwin, Hueit, and/or Green are studs from the start, they will only be relied on as secondary scorers/options. Our primary scoring will come from Talley (30 pts per 100), Porter (28/100), Stith (27/100), Stith (26/100), and Caver (23/100). Im not sure why anyone thinks that a ton of shots are coming from anywhere besides those 5 players......

Certainly Caver, Stith, Talley need to be more efficient next year and maybe some of the secondary options will open up things for them and they will not be relied on to bail out the offense as often. Personally, I like the idea of adding a mobile guy to guard "power forwards" as it keeps Porter/Stith in the paint. We have some guys that have the potential to be scorers at every spot next year and hopefully spreading the ball around will increase offensive productivity. if someone is looking for a pure offensive player to come in next year (outside of the current roster) and have significant minutes, I don't see it. I also think if we sign a freshman big, they have a very good shot of redshirting. Personally, if we don't get Yetna (unlikely), I would hope we get Reuter and have him sit out next year.

I think you are going to see it. Hueitt is the real deal man. Went and watched him play at Atlantic Shores, and he is a pure sniper. Quick release and good elevation. This kid is everything everyone is saying. I know he has to be good defensively, but he is going to hit shots if he gets the minutes. I would love to see him starting at the 2 and BJ at the 3. Talley spells BJ, while Green spells Hueitt. The other way around would be fine with me, but Hueitt is ready to score at the college level. Leave the leash at home.

He can certainly shoot it, but I would be surprised if he takes a ton of minutes day 1 from Talley/Stith/Green. He needs to get in the weight room and those guys are way more physically mature than him. If he does play a lot, then his talent was just too much to sit and that would be a good thing.

BJ really improved as the season went on. And Talley is pretty good himself. It is a lot to ask.

Personally I don't believe that Heuitt will be competing with BJ or Talley for minutes unless Jones changes one or both of them to play the 2. Unless Talley develops a 3 point shot then he would be like a fish out of water at the 2 for more than a choice few very specific instances. Heuitt's playing time would appear to be in competition with Xavier for Baker's former spot, and it is possible that Xavier is being considered for the back-up point guard spot as well. Don't know if Heuitt is able enough to be considered for that position, but it would be nice if he could play it.

To me, I just hope that Jones plays these guys (Xavier, Heuitt, Godwin, and Kah) without waiting for them to become an all world defender before they can get on the floor. We need some offensive punch either starting or off the bench, especially in shooting the 3.

He can handle the ball, but we really don't want Ahmad off the court very often.

I was referring to him as a potential back-up point guard as a means of getting more playing time if he didn't start at the 2. Could be another place to get in 6 - 8 minutes a game, unless he proved to be even better than Caver and started or split the minutes. If he was that good though they would probably end up being the starting guard tandem with Xavier as the 3rd guard. Just remember that LA Tech brought in a freshman point guard this season who started and wore us out.

We have had some others over the years too. At least one of the rest also came from Wake Forrest. Sylvester Charles another 6'-7" forward comes to mind. Sylvester turned out to be a very solid addition to the team back at that time.

They weren't in the ACC at the time, but I also remember ODU getting a guy that was about 6'-4" from Syracuse many years ago. Only got to see him play once in a preseason game and he appeared to be a really nice pick-up. He suffered an injury and never ended up playing for ODU as far as I recall.

I disagree. Skeen couldn't come close to Wilson Washington. Andre McCollum was pretty darn good too.

Wilson Washington, yep, one of the better Monarchs. EVER! BT Washington HS, via transfer U of Maryland.

Welcome to Monarch Nation Greg McClinton.

Just what we need...a defense first player who averaged 2.6 points per game.

Didn't Dennis Rodman hardly score any points in the games? Yet he was a huge asset to his teams.
Can't win with 5 Dennis Rodman's!

No question about that! Wilson was dangerous at both ends of the court. Wish he had a son that was a clone of him to play for ODU next season.

But think about the catchy nickname opportunities! We could have forever been etched into NCAA MBB history as the "Can of Worms"!!!! Screw Final Fours, that there is a legacy

RE: Wake Forest Transfer coming to ODU
I got some additional comments from three Wake Forrest fans today in response to the following question -
Is McClinton more suited to play the small forward, power forward, or suitable for playing both?

"I would say Greg can be an effective slasher, and rebounder at the 3 vs the 4, but in Manning's offense sometimes it was hard to tell who was where. He wasn't asked to shoot the 3 but has a nice mid range shot."

"Don't want to pick on the guy, but saying he has a nice mid-range shot is ridiculous."

"For all Old Dominion fans, you will love having Greg on your team!"

Washington was an All-American and an NBA player. Skeen did make the All-CAA Tournament team, though.

He led ODU to the 1975 NCAA Division 2 National Championship and was the MVP.

While Skeen was a good player for VCU, I'd take Wilson Washington over Skeen 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

We have wildly different definitions of what "plenty of scoring" actually means.

We lost our best defensive big man and the guy who always defended the other teams best post man and replaced him with a 3 with not enough strength to defend the 4.

Ok, sure, why not.

If porter or stith get in foul trouble, look out.

Dennis Rodman for his career still averaged 7.3 ppg and brought in 13.1 rebounds per game.

Greg McClinton 2.6 ppg and 2.2 rebounds per game is a far cry from Denis Rodman. And oh yea...Dennis Rodman played with Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan and David Robinsonw ho helped score a little.

Tough comparison to make.

Think I'll wait and see what we got myself. His pedigree looks mighty good. Coach Richardson was after him a few years ago, glad he had good thoughts still about becoming a Monarch. Would love to have him and Yetna but I guess it sounds like that's not gonna happen.

Bet we don't hear about last slot being filled till summer.

Here's my problem with it. Will he be an immediate contributor or will he have to learn the system and earn PT? if he can't come in right away and play, his value is greatly diminished due to the fact he's one and done. Following year, wash, rinse, repeat.

Same problem happening everywhere now. The graduate players coming in are not such a problem since many times they are higher ranked, or were in HS, then the guys already on teams st our level. Our biggest problem is the lack of 4-5 year big men. The coaches have aimed high with Yetna, got him to take one of his limited official visits, just not sure he's coming. We need both these type guys. Just a guess on my part, maybe he'll end up a Monarch after all in the end.

Razor, you have no idea if he is strong enough to guard the 4. Why would you say that, if you haven't seen the guy play?
