This morning's Chicago Tribune reports that Anthony Maddie's appeal for a 6th year of eligibility has been denied.

Well this should be another fun season. And yes as someone else had mentioned, if Graham starts I won't be using my tickets much this year

Deep breath...3 questions:
1) Who on this site, at this time last year, would have thought Maddie would have been as effective as he was? Point...let's let the QB's develop and perhaps we get one to perform at a high level.
2) Why the complete lack of respect for Graham? He struggled at times, but he also, under difficult circumstances, has stepped up in his brief career. One thing for sure, he has never backed down; his attitude, preparation and work ethic may prove to serve him well.
3) What, in 6 quarters of collegiate football, would Santa had to do to earn the respect and confidence of the loyal NIU fan base? He won two games, and were it not for a dropped 50 yard, perfectly thrown pass, would have passed for over 300 yards in his first start.
Maddie' s red shirt decision is unfortunate, but it's an opportunity for someone to emerge; let the situation play itself out...Go Huskies!

Graham looks terrified when he plays. That's the impression I get. He's also gotten progressively worse since his decent debut. Also, he can't run. That ability can cover some QB short comings and he doesn't have it. He's also one head shot away from being out of football. I respect the guys courage and effort, but he is a emergency QB at this point.
Santa needs to carry the weight of being #1. Graham looked decent as a relief guy. Coming off the bench has less pressure than being the leader. Santa needs to show he can lead the team as well as play at a high level.
As far as Maddie, yeah, he suprised many of us. But that was because he disappointed most of us to start. He had the pedigree and athleticism to be really good. When he wasn't that good initially, many lowered the expectations. He basically just finally met our original expectations and it caught us by surprise.

That's disappointing to hear. Thanks to Maddie for all of his hard work over the years. He had some bad luck along the way.

Good luck to Maddie. Sad he won't get one last shot to lead this team as the opening season starting QB.
We are staring at another losing record. Hopefully Santa has progressed a lot and those couple games helped him.

I completely mean no offense to Graham by saying this, but if Graham is competing for a starting job, Carey should be fired by that fact alone.

I'm sure I'll regret this, but I mostly agree. If Carey doesn't lose his "football honor code" BS about who's "doing it right" by his standards, he will put a nail in this teams coffin. He needs to put more emphasis on talent and adjust to this generations athlete. Not reward players based on some Knute Rockney old school code of football righteousness.

If the starter is not Santa or Hall, I myself may not attend games as well.
Graham is the exact definition of a backup QB. He is good to plug in in small doses but cannot lead a team for an entire season. Plus, whatever happened to NIU needing dual threat QBs to effectively run the offense? Hopefully Carey realizes that but nothing surprises me anymore.
