Who in the Toledo community is willing to make that financial commitment to keep Candle's salary competitive within the MAC? Why would anyone spend money that way??
Have you ever slid a couple bucks in the donation container when the little leaguers or high school cheerleaders come knocking at your door? The principal is the same. The difference is that there are people in the Toledo community who have the resources to do a lot more than most of us can. Why should they not be able to spend their money the way they want to?
I am not questioning their right, just why of all the community needs, put money in for a college coach to earn more?
People leave their entire estate to their cat. Candle may as well get some of it, instead.

Really want to keep him, pay him a base 600,000 with incentives, something in the range of 800,000- 1 mil
Why pay him more? He has not proven anything yet. We need to look at least 2 years down the road, when his classes stat playing. I have said this before, this year and next year are still Matt Campbell's kids. Let's see how the team does the next 2 seasons, before we give out contract extentions. MOB thinks by doing this, it will keep Candle here longer, but, we know that doesn't work.

Did I tell everyone about that $300,000,000 lottery that I won...
And you didn't pony up for Les Miles?

That means they got the money from the UT Foundation and not the athletic department budget

Remember that Candle was Campbell's chief recruiter.......

I would hope not.
Quote:The University of Toledo Foundation is the official gift-receiving and fund-management organization for The University of Toledo. Our purpose is to support the University’s broad educational mission by receiving, managing, and distributing generous gifts to benefit students and enhance faculty and program efforts.
Coaching salary is just too huge a stretch for me to think within that stated mandate. Private money sure. Private money pipelined through UTF for THIS purpose, UTF should say "no thank you."
"General" funds are a beacon of trust between the University and the donator that the money will be used according to the wording of the mandate. Not to join the over-inflation of coaching salaries. Even private money directed specifically to this use seems to demean the purpose of the Foundation. I'm sure another could easily be created in order to avoid conflicts of interest.
