I hope to hell that was not intentional and was the result of VCU leaking this before Rhoades could talk to the players.
Rhoades as of yet has not met with the players

Thanks for the detail.
That was far from the worst, but it must have hit a nerve.

I saw a couple of tweets speculating on that:

If VCU does hire Mike Rhoades, one benefit could be the potential transfer of sophomore standout guard Marcus Evans back to his home state.

With Mike Rhoades going to VCU my question is will @Marcus_Evans12 follow his coach and come back to #VA
unfortunately, my opinion is that it is a real possibility

If he lobbies any of the Rice players to follow him to VCU, then F*** Coach Rhoades and the horse he rode in on. That cheapens and diminishes everything he said about building the program and team. If he heads back up to VCU without trying to take any players with him, then I sincerely wish him the best of luck.

But HE (meaning coach Rhoades himself) may not have to influence at all. Some of these players are from Virginia (Ako, Marcus) and you have to admit that it would be attractive to them to go to a school that is close to home and consistently wins their conference to get to the big dance.

That's a different scenario. And really, I doubt us Parliamentarians will ever have the inside scoop if any players do transfer. Still, would (arguably) the best player in CUSA, who I presume has at least some NBA dreams, really want to sit out a season to transfer to a top-notch program where he wouldn't necessarily be guaranteed 30+ minutes of playing time? If he stays at Rice, he knows he remains in the spotlight as one of CUSA's elites. I just don't see how sitting on the bench for a year at VCU helps him develop.

1. Guys would have to sit out a year if they chose to transfer.
2. If Rhoades is sincere about his concern for Rice, he can refuse to consider any transfers from the current program.

Well, Rhoades is no longer the Rice head coach, he's the VCU head coach. Accepting transfers is part of the job, and does not amount to actively recruiting players away from another school.

I think that's silly.
Rhoades should make it abundantly clear the pros and cons of transferring with him, but I don't think he should refuse anyone's request to transfer with him if his new team has space.
