Heck, Chad was the best Memphis Tiger on the floor in the closed scrimmage with UNC.

So was Kaleb Castro. Apparently dude could reel off 10 threes in a row.

I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

"Karim Azab / ??" should be switched around on the best case scenario to "?? / Karim Azab". Hopefully we find someone equipped to fill that void.

You know it's not a good thing when a kid doesn't even have a Youtube video.

He plays well at the Finch. Good hands and feet, decent offensively. Uses his size surprisingly well and I think that's very important. Laugh all you want, but he will likely be better than most think.

Hopefully. But if I had a dollar for every time a player has been given a "really looks good at the Fich" review...

The only "looked good at the Finch" I can remember panning out was CD-R. Everybody was all excited about the Laurinburg Prep guys we had signed but when the reports started coming in from pickup games at the finch it was CD-R who they said nobody could stop.

I remember folks talking about Stan and Modibo looking like beasts. Barham never missed a shot.

They said Taggart was killing our bigs when he came on a recruiting visit.

From seeing the Azab kid play there, for a kid 6-10 280 who really hasn't played a ton of organized basketball, he's got some ability. And he uses his size well, meaning he doesn't appear to want to do things he's not capable of doing. He's a true center, stays in the paint, and you can tell has a nose for the ball and uses his size to do that. He's gonna get better with coaching and playing.

Very possible, ST had skillz, but when they start indulging in the "All you can inhale" spots.....the skills go out the window, get left behind

I can see that.

Just would be highly shocked if he's starting next year.

Geron was a Finch all-star. He did okay. Of course, he was 20-point juco too.

Based on reports, Azab is the classic "project". He may end up materially helping our team but unlike the recent past we cannot risk a bust because we have no margin for error with the present roster.

I'm intrigued by the chance to have a true pivot with good size, but last I saw of the kid, he needs at the very least a tremendous summer in the S&C program. He needs to slim down and re-shape.

He's Kareem Cooper/Hashim Bailey-ish.

Really like more of a 3 guard, 2 forward set up.

Mostly think that because Azab won't be ready to start, maybe ever, but definitely not next year.

IMO

I just hope we dont get Taco again b/c we will most likely Fall .07-coffee3

He's Kareem Cooper/Hashim Bailey-ish.

You know, I thought that too watching him. I'd add this though. He doesn't have the skills Cooper had. That kid could play, and could do a lot of things well. He just didn't have the head to put those skills to work.
I thought Bailey was just plain bad.
I think the Azab kid is in between the two, but will likely be very coach able. Tubby loves him and that's a good thing.
I think he'll be asked to rebound, move, be fundamentally sound and stay around the hoop. He can certainly do that. Be a presence in the paint.

Hmm...I recall Cooper and Bailey being different body styles from each other. Cooper seemed much softer than Hashim. Hashim certainly wasn't sculpted, but he wasn't round like Cooper. All the same, Cooper had much better skills.

When I looked at Azab on the sideline, I could see a Hashim body type. Certainly not round and soft looking like Kareem. Just a big dude. Doesn't need to lose weight, maybe just reposition it.

Hard workouts this summer would help - sure. He is tight around the waistline, but otherwise not obviously fat.
