Can't open the link, but the transfer market is just now heating up. Lots of announcements to come between now and end of April.

A lot of players also re-opening their recruitment this period too.

So, you have a glut of available players as of right now and going forward until the season ends and every last grad is announced.

Yeah, the article states it's about 100 kids mid-season and 600 postseason. Saluki's point was that they have missed on most of the mid-season kids this year. For a team with our roster issues, this might be a bad sign.

We need to land a GT.

Best I can tell, Kessee was the 1st grad transfer Tubby had ever taken.

I would guess, based on this idea of developing "his kind of player" that Tubby isn't very fond of that style of recruiting.

I don't think he is going to have a choice for next year's roster. I'd rather the staff take a flyer on a "proven" grad transfer than a borderline 2 or 4 year prospect that jeopardizes our # of scholarships for the 2018 and 2019 classes.

Well, Chad was one also.

Looked over Tubby's recent recruiting classes. He didn't have any grads that I see. Although he did have 2 jucos on just about every roster. What I was surprised at are the number of prep school guys he signed. Over the last 5 years, he has averaged 1 prep schooler each year, to go along with 1 juco.

Now, most of that is out the window, because recruiting at Memphis is different than TT and Minny.

Wonder if Marshall messes with grad transfers at WS? I know he's only had 1 recruit above a 3-star at Wichita State - so he does it largely on 3-stars from high school. Not sure about jucos and grads, though.

Haha. How quickly we forget.

Although, technically, he could have been a two year guy.

He just had one last year and has gotten a couple. He gets a lot of JUCO's and gets a few good traditional transfers (Frankamp from KU, Ron Baker from Oregon).

Baker signed with Wichita out of HS.

A lot of JCs though - assistant coaches Steve Forbes and Greg Haier and Isaac Brown and Chris Jans all had JC backgrounds.

Sorry, Malcom Armstead.

Right, who we likely could've had with Gary Flowers had Josh just hired their JC coach as an assistant (who ironically is now at Wichita).

Southern Miss hired him and got Flowers and 6-6 role player Torrye Pelham.

So, that first Pastner team COULD have had:

Taggart
Garcia
Coleman
Flowers
Niles
Witherspoon
Pelham
DJ
Mack
Sallie
Elliot
Kemp
Armstead

At worst, Armstead still goes to Oregon and Taggart leaves.

That STILL would've been an NCAA roster.

Coleman
Flowers/Witherspoon
Mack
Sallie
Elliot/Kemp

Garcia
Niles
Pelham
DJ

Don't forget about Latavious Williams. I seem to recall Pastner was confident he could get him through the clearing house and eligible.

Best Case:

PG: Jeremiah Martin / Keon Clergeot
SG: Markel Crawford/ Jamal Johnson /??
SF: K.J. Lawson / David Nickleberry /??
PF: Dedric Lawson /Jimario Rivers/ Victor Enoh
C: Karim Azab / ??

Worst Case:

PG: Jeremiah Martin / Keon Clergeot
SG: Jamal Johnson / ?? / ??
SF: David Nickleberry / ?? / ??
PF: Jimario Rivers / Victor Enoh
C: Karim Azab / ??

I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

RE: 2017 recruiting strategy question
I think any JC big they get is going to start at center, whether that players knows it yet or not.

Really like more of a 3 guard, 2 forward set up.

Mostly think that because Azab won't be ready to start, maybe ever, but definitely not next year.

IMO

"Karim Azab / ??" should be switched around on the best case scenario to "?? / Karim Azab". Hopefully we find someone equipped to fill that void.

You know it's not a good thing when a kid doesn't even have a Youtube video.

He plays well at the Finch. Good hands and feet, decent offensively. Uses his size surprisingly well and I think that's very important. Laugh all you want, but he will likely be better than most think.

I'm sure he will be a contributor one day, but not next year as a starter.

Unless the team has no ambition and it's just a total rebuild.

Hopefully. But if I had a dollar for every time a player has been given a "really looks good at the Fich" review...

Kessee and Chad were Finch all-stars.

Heck, Chad was the best Memphis Tiger on the floor in the closed scrimmage with UNC.
