No disputing his success, but he's supposedly a jerk of a human being.

South and North Carolina fans fusing together in Greenville SC to make one helluva home court advantage for the Gamecocks against Duke.

Major egg on the ACC's face. 9 teams in the NCAAT and looking like only 1 (UNCheat) will make it to the 2nd weekend. Didn't see this coming. And, the Cheaters were thiiiiiis close to making it none.

3 SEC (if SC holds on to defeat Duke), 3 Big 12, and 3 Big 10 teams advancing. Pac 12 has 2 and could get a 3rd if UCLA can come back to defeat Cincinnati in the 2nd half of the late game tonight.

Yeah, poor showing from the ACC this year around. Almost makes me feel better seeing how competitive my Hokies were against Wisconsin after seeing them take down Villanova. I really wanted to beat the Badgers, but every time we got within 1 or 2 points they'd hit a big shot on the other end. The 10-point loss doesn't really tell the story of that game.

Of bigger embarrassment for the ACC is how many teams got blasted in the second round. But considering the CAA's lone representative got beaten by a UVA team that then failed to score 40 points in a tournament game, I wouldn't be pointing too many fingers and yukking it up though.

Some good Sweet 16 games tonight. Too often, we see a lot of blowouts at this stage.

Oregon wins by 1 as Michigan misses a last second shot to win it. WVU and Gonzaga is going to go down to the wire right now on TBS.

Good to see Gonzaga advancing. That is a supremely well coached team.

I don't know how West Virginia doesn't foul out their ENTIRE team EVERY game. Huggins has no room to gripe. They are the beneficiary of a lot of no calls.

Twas thinking the same thing down the stretch. A lot of teams (and meant a bit as a compliment to Huggins and his guys perhaps) still alive in this tournament are pleased to see them gone. Their pressure is exhausting. Will be interesting to see how Gonzaga plays Saturday night. They may be worn out.

Gonzaga's big guy is a liability at the FT line (just south of 60%). Could come back to haunt them.

the lack of upsets in first round of tournament has produced amazing second round and sweet 16 games thus far.

Great tournament so far

Gonzaga is rated no. 1 in Kenpom and is very good defensively, which many people don't realize. On the flip side, UCLA runs a beautiful offensive system (probably with 5 or 6 NBA players on its roster) and is a joy to watch.

RE: OT: MBB NCAA Tournament
As we all know, success in March Madness is often getting hot at the right time. Xavier immediately comes to mind. Florida and South Carolina are teams to watch as well.

Having watched some of Kansas last night after they caught up from their early hole to Purdue, combined "hot" + talented and they are going to be a very tough team to beat.

While watching the Diamond Dukes game online, I'll be peeking over simultaneously (let's call it "multi tasking" :>) at the CBS coverage of the Butler-UNCheat game. Butler has the discipline to take UNCheat out. Then again, UNCheat has the talent and experience to run with anybody in this tournament, including Kansas (UCLA and Zags). But, the Cheaters showed me multiple times this season they can be had - see really bad loss at Ga Tech, looked terrible in loss at Virginia, etc.

RE: OT: MBB NCAA Tournament
For the folks who are proponents of the 3 point offense- driving to the rim and playing good defense seems to have worked out well for South Carolina. Fun to watch as well. Toughness and versatility is as effective a strategy as 3 point shooting. I'd argue more effective because your success doesn't hinge on the 3 point shots falling.

Barry was on the court as a rotation guy yesterday for Florida but never really got the ball. Was more of a decoy then anything. I'm sure he had a nice Senior season as a grad transfer at Florida and flying charter playing in full arenas and making the elite 8 was great but it didn't help his chances professionally and maybe if he stays at COC he is more a part of their success. Just food for thought.

RE: OT: MBB NCAA Tournament
I thought SC's success was tied to excellent defense. And we all know that saying about defense winning championships. While you couldn't ask to watch two teams with more different offensive approaches than what SC and FLA displayed last night, it was the defensive pressure that got Florida relying too much on outside shooting (reinforced by their first half success).

South Carolina vs. Gonzaga is going to be some physical basketball for sure. To me it's much preferable to watch than a track meet (*cough* havoc *cough*). I am hoping the winner of that one takes it all home - a semi-Cinderella story, as if a #1 seed were ever a Cinderella...

Imagine if hoops were like D1A football. Now that the Final 4 has been established, they will wait 5 weeks to late April or early May to play the semifinals. :>)

If basketball were based solely upon Defense, then WVU would still be in the hunt. But the lack of Offensive talent cost them the right to play against SC yesterday.

I'm not discounting hustle but talent will always win at this level. Silva stepping up as well as Kosart, in the paint , and of course Notice and Sindarious Thornwell and Dozier. The Gamecocks are peaking at the right time of the year but with O & D.

The Tar Heels are not immune to failure, but I wouldn't reference the loss to UVA as anything other than what it was... a fluke that was a result from the lowest scoring game effort dating back to 1979 for Carolina.

The Heels have validated themselves just as The Wahoos , what's a wahoo any way, have just in different and polar opposite ways.

Would love to see a Carolina vs Carolina Final.

And, the Lady Gamecocks take on Florida State tonight to see if South Carolina can have not one, but both, of their hoops programs in their respective Final 4's.

IF this fairytale on the Men's side comes true,.. that would give the Palmetto State, NCAA Titles in Baseball, Football and Basketball in arguably the same year.

Coastal Carolina
Clemson
Univ. South Carolina

I lost all interest after Florida beat my Badgers. I went to Wisconsin, but moved to Tennessee in 1973. As a longtime Tennessee fan (although I never cared a whole lot for what we called the "men Vols" LOL) I HATE FLORIDA! Now I just don't care much who wins....as long as it's not them.
