RE: UNO Playoff series - Game 1 thread
I agree with some of your post ; i thought we were draggy last night but were not really out played with the exception of the start of the game . Tonights game was defensive issues on there goals but we were more accertive physical . The Bafia Geoff combo seems to be the most sure in our own end not turning it over and best at coming out of our own end with the first pass. The first line looks a little lost vs usual but they are dealing with a new centerman that is not a centerman so it is going to take a while to try and establish chemistry. To bad about Dries, he has been on a hot streak the last month and being a senior has limited time left. Muir is also a big loss, a big body that can skate and control puck possesion. The Conrad Allison McGing line , the youngest line in college hockey played well tonight and so did our penalty killers. Also i don,t think people are giving Omaha enough credit they are a ranked team playing in the toughest conference in college hockey and have a very good record away from home. This is not a crappy team

McMullin is also out. All three guys are key players which impacts three different lines. Tough time of the year for coaches to try and find new line combination and then get them to gel.

I agree with you about Omaha. They have allot of offensive talent. What's hurt them this season has been their defensive play and goal tending. This weekend they have ripped a page out of Bronco hockey play book with a very structure defensive game and a strong Forecheck.

It will be interest to see which team is better prepared to play a 3 game series, something neither team has faced all season long.

Also will be interesting how that third game helps/hurts a team pairwise ranking. Broncos drop from 4 to 5 after Fridays lost, but moved back up to 4 with Saturdays win and Minnesota's SOL. If we win tonight, we stay at 4 and Omaha drops to 19, most likely ending their national tournament hopes. If we lose we drop to 6 and Omaha moves up to 17 and would need to pick up a win in Minneapolis in order to have a chance to keep playing.

Dries has the broken thumb, but what's going on with Muir and McMullin?

I suspect we will see Dries return to the lineup, as they are probably just holding him out till the regional tournament. If it is a broken thumb, I'm sure he could still play, it's that next hit/slash/block that could end up doing some more serious damage. Wise move of the staff not to take chances now.

I'm not sure if we will see Muir or McMullen return this year

Big blow if Dries has a broken thumb. Haven't seen Chris Dienes in the lineup either. Broncos played much better Sat. night. Let's close it out tonight vs. Omaha. Fight On !!

Pretty weak crowds this weekend, especially for the Lunatics of course, but it was better than in years past. I heard that Dries broke a thumb but no mention of a timeline for return. Last night showed what a difference maker and a leader he is. He really makes everyone better, every line.

We played last night's game without hustle almost from start to finish. We were flat and played with no physical edge. We're a team that's at our best when both teams are skating hard and playing physical, like how the NCAA tournament will be, so that's something to be optimistic about. The series vs North Dakota was so hard fought and physical, and that's really when we shine. UNO's goalie played really well last night and took a serious razzing from the Lunatics, more on that later.

Tonight's game started out exactly the same. Flat, feet dragging, and it really looked like a lack of effort going after a 50/50 puck cost us the first goal. After we scored, we perked up noticeably through the end of the first. We played the rest of the game with more effort than last night, but with Dries out of the lineup we didn't have much of an edge on them effort-wise until we got the scoring rolling in the third. Their goalie's confidence was crushed by the end of the night. I'm guessing if we put up the first goal tomorrow night that'll be the end of UNO's season.

If Dries has a broken thumb, obviously a big blow to the Broncos. I thought Tiffels and Molino played well Sat. night as did McGing. Fleming is looking especially good back on the blueline. Overall, better passing and effort than Friday night.
Let's put 'em away tonight at Lawson, Broncos. Fight On!!

Broken thumb , wrist and needs hip sugury 2 of 3 will not be back this year, the thumb one will depend on what hand it is, top hand or bottom hand . If it is bottom hand he will not be able to shoot, stick handle and be totally ineffective , top hand you can design an cast that will work it won't be 100 percent but about 75 percent control.

I am also surprised not to see Chris Dienes this weekend. He played very well last Saturday. I don't think he is injured.
