o no... please don't ask us to do something like this again.

Curb our enthusiasm and accept a horrible beat down loss as being too much expectation on our parts.

“Just because it’s different,” Smith responded. “I’ve not coached at Memphis. That’s one thing. You know, and then you’ve got a flavor here just of expectations. … We were picked to finish fifth this year and we finished fifth.”

So I guess if the honeymoon was over as of last Saturday, we're now looking to move into separate bedrooms.

The Dedric thing is the sorriest excuse I've ever seen a CBB coach use for losing the last 6 of 8. Every team with NBA prospects go through this speculation towards end of season.

This is beyond my comprehension. I'm at a loss for words that I can post.

He was told about the expectations.

I see nothing wrong with Tubby's statements in this article.

I like tubby and respect him but he knew about the expectations before he got here.

But now that he does know since he didn't before he needs to coach these boys up and win on Friday.

You being at a loss for words is the greatest set of words you have ever posted. Now if you could exit stage left right the heck off this board it would be AWESOME!

I believe he's talking about expectations for this season. As a whole the beat writer indicated he believes the expectations of getting to the sweet 16 every four years is fair. I believe he didn't like the Jason Smith deal of getting on the radio saying Dedric is gone.

RE: CA - Tigers' Tubby Smith bemoans expectations, distractions
He implied the players had gotten away from not being selfish, but he didn't scream that they were selfish MFers on national TV. And he also didn't talk about what a Hall of Fame coach Jankovitch is or how we just need to make shots. So, he's not like either of our last two coaches in how he handles things. I thought he was just being matter of fact about what he thought. He doesn't seem to be the kind of person who pretends.

But hey, this kind of situation is part of the reason the job pays $3 million. It goes with the territory. The team does well, you get the credit. The team stinks it up, you get the blame. He's a grown man. He needs to knuckle down and fix the problems. Drain the swamp if you need to, just get it fixed. That's what they pay you to do. Might turn out he's not tough enough for the job. If any of the coaches who have been really successful hear had stuck around afterward, we might have found out if anyone is. But they didn't.

He's not a bull shitter, that's for sure. Some people want to be lied to (sales), some don't.

There's nothing wrong with his statements at all.

Unless you like shaking your head at everything because you like doing that sort of thing, there's nothing here.

Satisfied with fifth place. No enthusiasm or drive to do better?
He is coaching at the wrong school, or Memphis fans have too many expectations.
No wonder we lost so many games,we had to make sure we got that fifth place spot.
Not looking good for the future; we fans do not accept mediocrity.
Show him the door.

Ridiculous. Nobody is happy with 5th place. You want to win every single game you play. Realistically, I think we are right where most thought we would be or maybe a little better actually. This team has basically 4 players and some fill in guys. That's it. If you don't beleive that you're kidding yourself.

Neither do I. I agree with Tubby here. The team was picked to finish 5th. They finished 5th. As lousy a finish as this team had, it was still better than most expected. I think a lot of us forget that.

Sure as hell sounded like he was satisfied with 5th place. We were picked to finish fifth and we finished fifth.

Most said that UConn was a favorite before the season started and they weer decimated by injuries.

And incase Orlando does not remember we won 19 games last year also.

If we had gotten in the bigwhatever, recruiting would have been easier.
Maybe we promised that when he came here...

I'm just looking at this from another angle.

But geeze louise....he sounds awfully beaten down.
