For me personally, Christmas came in April of 16 when the previous coach left. Tubby was a great hire, to me, and I certainly feel we will be an ncaa tournament team as early as next year with Tubby leading the way.
I had zero expectations this year. None. I figured we'd be 20-15 ish give or take a couple of games and we'd have an upward trajectory for the next few years and then some under this coach. I'm optimistic for the future of the program under Tubby. He's a class guy, role model and a helluva PROVEN basketball coach.
I'm totally confident he will get players in here that he can work with and can improve. He's got a good recruiting class started and I'd bet he signs at least 2 more. I think the program is in great hands.

Do you just make things up on the fly? Tubby has been WELL compensated for at least 13 years. In 2003, UK gave him a nice raise to $2.5M and made him the highest paid coach in the country. He's made $30M since that raise. Not sure what he made before then, but it wasn't chump change.
Cal, Coach K, make that in 3 years. I guess you could say well compensated for a double digit loss every year coach. And we are overpaying the market by far for him and he is bitching about tough fans and "distractions ". Pisses me off for a $3M a year coach to complain about such.
That bonus was on top of an annual salary in the neighborhood of $2 million, which Minnesota seems to feel is far too much for a coach who has failed to find postseason success year after year. (Sound familiar?)
Tubby Smith agreed this week to become head coach of the Texas Tech men’s basketball team. He’ll start off earning $1.6 million in guaranteed compensation. That amount is scheduled to increase by $100,000 each year through the 2018-19 season.
Dude. You said "Tubby has never made the big bucks that many coaches have". You were patently wrong about this. He's averaged over $2M for the past decade and a half. Just talking off the top of your head.
On the high side but let's assume you are right. Where does that put him in Division one? Probably not in Top 25.

"Fans", have been treating the man like sh!t since he got the job.
They're not fans. They simply cannot overcome their man crush for Joshie. No other coach will compare.
Ain't nobody buying your bullshite TubbyTime.
AUP violation. Reported.
It's not TubbyTime; it's Taylor and go run and report all you want. Go report the massive disrespect shown for Tubby on this board while you're reporting me. You're a joke!

Tourney team next year? You serious clark? If he ever does get it going it will be time for him to retire and we will have to start over again. Never understood the hire.

Wait. I think Funk was 'reporting' Penny for violating the AUP--calling you TubbyTime when you are TTaylor.

He and his staff need to put their heads down and get to work. There's some noise out there sure, but this is Memphis where the town is into basketball not like Minnesota or Texas Tech where they really don't give a ****.

I spent most of my life, with very few exceptions (Tic), anxiously awaiting March Madness. Even when we weren't good, we weren't bad and I always thought we had a chance. Losing to St Louis, Michigan State and Virginia and not having but 3 or 4 really good wins over anybody the last 8 years has made this time of year depressing.
I hope that Tubby only gets year 3 ( 1 down, 2 to go) to prove he can recruit somebody.
I really think that we are as bad as we have been, or worse, in over 40 years.
If you were not happy making 4 straight NCAAs (no matter who the coach was) and feel good about waiting until '19 at best to make it again, I have so sympathy for you. I also live for NCAA tournament and I'm unhappy right now; I was very happy going to 4 straight tourneys.
Why, to see us get embarrassed while getting our brains beat out while Wonder boy was our coach? Yea, that's really fun. Dude, we all know Tubby wasn't your first choice (mine either, I'm not a Tubby lover), but your agenda filled ranting against Tubby sticks out like a sore thumb. Old chit.

Tourney team next year? You serious clark?
Totally serious...
I'd say you pretty much summed up my own thoughts and expectations. Then the team started playing a little above my expectations and there was a bit of a letdown when they started under-performing in February but still this year was a gimme for Tubby. I'll wait a bit before forming any final conclusions about the hire itself.
RE: When am I going to enjoy this time of year again?
We finished up the last 11 this season 4-7. Our best player and possibly others are leaving. 4-7, ending in a historic blow out, is on an upward trajectory? Tournament bound next year with a couple of returnees and a couple of 3* freshman? Come on.

$30M over 13 years? Definitely top 25. He was #1 in the country for a few of those years. $2M average is inaccurately high? Work on your math.
Just stop it. You continue to bury yourself. Just stop.
