Nada. The idea apparently lost momentum.

Not true. Our president wants it. Many fans and boosters want it. He's said that the conference affiliation aspect of things will be taken into account first. If the AAC wants us, that may play a part in how we proceed. If we don't change conferences, that will have an impact. Football is still very much on the table as well as adding other sports. We're in the process of campus expansion and aggressively pursuing an increase in enrollment and football is expected to play a part, we're just not exactly sure where it will be and what we will need to do. Being stuck in FCS or knowing we have a good shot at FBS dictates how much and where money is spent.

Three basketball divisions:

North: UConn, UMass, Temple, Dayton, Cincinnati
South: Memphis, VCU, ECU, UCF, USF
West: Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Wichita State

20 games play everyone in the division twice and everyone else once, except for two cross division mirror TV games. Good balance and most rivalry games are protected in the home and home format.

Football divisions:

North: Army, Navy, UConn, UMass, Cincinnati, ECU, Temple
South: USF, UCF, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis

9 conference games, play everyone in the division once, 1 made for TV annual crossover, and 2 rotating crossovers.

Army-Navy is played a week before conference championship games in an exclusive slot on the ESPN networks, game gets the full ESPN cast on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNews like the do for the national championship game. Basketball tournament is held in Cincinnati's newly renovated arena. Cincinnati and Dayton provide two local teams to fill up the arena and central location for the rest of the league. Marketing emphasis on rivalry game and the league members accomplishments without reference to power conference status. Emphasis on national titles, all-americans, and national rankings. The north division in both sports helps recapture the old Big East market and gives league a northeastern division in basketball and football.

If byu and bsu aren't feasible, then this is a sensible and realistic plan.

Not bad. The only criticism of the football structure is that the SOUTH division would likely keep the lion's share of Florida and Texas recruits, which would make the SOUTH the dominant division, over time.

The B1G, ACC, and SEC perhaps excel because of a dominant division (like the old Big 12 South), so perhaps to have a dominant division is not a bad thing...

I like the idea of trying to get all the academies together in the conference:

East
Cincinnati
Connecticut
East Carolina
Memphis
South Florida
Temple
UCF

West-ish (Army and Navy would want to be with these schools IMO)
Air Force
Army
Houston
Navy
SMU
Tulane
Tulsa

...and for basketball...

Cincinnati
Connecticut
Dayton
East Carolina
Houston
Memphis
South Florida
SMU
Temple
Tulane
Tulsa
UCF
VCU
Wichita State

This is my #2 ideal scenario after my dream scenario of byu, bsu, army, af, Gonzaga, st Mary's, wsu...a pipe dream, I know.

What about a middle-ground scenario?

Add Air Force and San Diego St. for football.

Then, with AFA and SDSU in the fold, reach out to Army and BYU for football scheduling and bowl affiliation - but not football membership.

To help land Air Force and San Diego St. football, reach out to BYU, Gonzaga, and St. Mary's to join AFA and SDSU in a western arm of the AAC Olympic sports.

Concurrently, continue to discuss Olympic sports membership with Wichita St., Dayton, and VCU. To balance things out, find one other eastern school to invite for Olympic sports (UMass? - who *affiliates* with the AAC for football - but remains football independent?)

So, AAC football =

WEST: Navy, Air Force, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, SDSU
EAST: UConn, Temple, Cincinnati, Memphis, ECU, UCF, USF
* Army, BYU (and UMass?) as affiliates for OOC scheduling and bowls

AAC basketball =
NORTH: UConn, Temple, Cincinnati, Dayton, UMass(?)
EAST: VCU, ECU, Memphis, UCF, USF
SOUTH: Houston, Tulane, SMU, Tulsa, Wichita St.
WEST: Air Force, SDSU, BYU, Gonzaga, St. Mary's

8-6-4 schedule
- 8 v. division
- 6 v. neighboring division, ie, SOUTH v. WEST and NORTH v. EAST
- 4 v. other divisions (ie, NORTH v. SOUTH or WEST; WEST v. NORTH or EAST, etc.). Only one 2-game cross-country road trip required for any school.

I realize the Olympic sports is basically TWO conferences in one...but this is a fantastic basketball conference and ideal for TV.

The west coast hassle only makes sense if there is a lot of money on the table. SDSU would need to find another other sports league too. I think it just as easy to keep our current 12 team lineup with 3 additional basketball teams. If Army wants to join with someone like Air Force, that is appealing from a contract and political clout standpoint though.

To me the west coast configuration is dead unless a network really wants it.

AAC basketball tournament could have THREE venues: one venue for the WEST and another for the EAST, until the...

AAC FINAL FOUR (top-2 from the EAST and top-2 from the WEST) meet in NYC or Philly or Vegas to determine the champion.
