That's a good point. Even from the perspective of WSU, VCU, and Dayton... if they don't think that their admittance to the conference would help up the TV deal value, then why would they come? It would make the slices of the pie smaller for everyone.

Especially when the A-10 NCAA teams get benefits from making the tourney that AAC teams don't. That to me is obviously the only draw of staying in the A-10.

It's more than just tv money. NCAA revenues are huge for non P5 leagues. Also there would be savings in travel. ECU, Cincy and Tulsa are kind of outliers so when other teams come here there would be an easy trip to another league opponent before flying home.

The football league is already solid. A 12-team football conference is plenty.
The best nationally relevant properties on the board are basketball programs that happen to fit nicely into the AAC footprint.

actually he was a good source for anything coming out of Providence.

Maybe. But he sucked at anything Big 12 expansion related. Basically, anything he said, take the opposite view and it will probably happen.

To be fair, the Big 12 expansion was one big circle jerk that every journalist was flabbergasted by.

We need to add one school basketball only to keep parity with Navy on the bb side, the question is who has the most tradition and recent success

Agreed. I think the conference even pulled a fast one on some of the schools within the Big XII conference. I've been told when the finalists arrived for the interviews that they never even met with the university presidents, just Bowlsby and an attorney. It was a ruse to posture negotiations of their pro-rata clause in their TV contract.

VCU / ECU ~160 miles
WSU / Tulsa ~180 miles
UD / Cincy ~55 miles

I wouldn't emphasize that lest VCU thinks they'll wind up having to play ECU twice a year. I'd wait and tell them after they sign the papers. 04-cheers

RE: Wichita State , Dayton , VCU being discussed for bball?
Personally, I believe that in order to make the AAC a clear P6, is to obviously increase $ by increasing TV inventory, getting an auto-bid to a NY6 bowl and lastly, but very important, is to make moves that clearly add separation between us and the G4. What it really comes down to is can we get enough money from ESPN and other outlets to make it happen. I think the number has to be in the 15 million dollar range for all sports members, 10-12 million for football members and 3-5 million for Olympic sports members. IMO, I would do something like this:

UC, UCONN, ECU, UCF, USF, Temple, Tulane, Army (FB), VCU (Oly)

UH, Tulsa, SMU, Memphis, Navy (FB), BYU, Boise (FB), AF (FB), WSU (Oly)

Not saying it should layout this way, personally I really enjoy going to NO every other year. Memphis could go east. This gives us 16 FB members and 14 Olympic members. I would add BYU all sports because they have a good BB history and bring TV eyeballs. If BYU wanted FB only, then we add Dayton and re-work the divisions. With the rumors, this could actually be starting to happen with Olympic sports first and FB additions to come at a later point. This brings a ton of cache for TV. It is all about the match-ups and what TV is willing to pay for them and this would really hurt the MWC, our closest competition. I would find it real hard for ESPN not to refer to us as a P6 and calling us a tweener is just stupid.

National Championship(s). I know it's been decades for Georgetown but I'm still certain you've heard of such a thing.

I see. That's good that your boy inherited a stud squad that got him that championship, that should buy him another 20 or 30 more years at UConn?
