The lighting is apparently overwhelming, requiring a few people to keep their sunglasses on while inside.

I wear my sunglasses at night....so that's cool

They will call it the Courtside Club. It will feature a premium dining experience. It is located near the UH game day lockers, and the glass wall will allow patrons to view the team going between the lockers and the court.

You can fit all your fans in that room alone. Don't need the rest of the arena.

What an original comment, did you think of that one all by yourself?

Nice! I love the modern look to all the athletics venues.

I have never been to Houston, but I'm assuming from this picture that court level is below ground?

I wish ECU could do something where they tear down Minges and start over, perhaps reuse some of the same materials to cut down on costs, and make court level below ground. I think it just makes much more sense, and allows for much more room.

Hopefully the seating is more vertical than depicted. Nothing says you can't offer a good line-of-sight view that doesn't require a telescope to see the players for people paying under $45 a ticket for a game.

Same for new football stadiums. While it was a bit of a weird video, the vid of Gronk going to a Barcelona game was telling. He talked about how the fans are right on top of the field and how that created a crazy atmosphere. We need that here in the states, more vertical seating at the lower levels with overhangs. Get everyone closer to the action.

Overall, the place looks nice...definitely not the TCU "let's make the YMCA look like we put new carpet in" look.

The low ceiling/roof means they still have to use much of the old wide (and not high) footprint...which means the seating angles can't go anymore vertical without really eliminating even more seats, which the new renovation is already doing.

Well shite...nevermind. It was nice while it lasted. You're a public state school, you can use school money to aid in the construction...raze and replace. Putting a lot of makeup on a pig doesn't make bacon bad...but it does mean you still have that pig.

I think it looks excellent. Houston shouldn't go with a boxy cookie cutter replacement. I love effect of the new ceiling. That design has a modern twist to a coliseum layout.

It's an 8k arena. Even the worst seat in the house provides a fine view.

the ceiling is so low it looks claustrophobic....that's my problem with Hoffheinz/Fertitta.

I've never been...its just my impression from pictures.

The ceiling is the coolest part about Fertitta, imo. Love the ribbon lights around the perimeter.

With the new partial beamed ceiling more room for hanging jerseys and the flags. But they kept most ceiling as is so the crowd noise should not dissipate much. When the Hoff was packed it was very loud. Don't know if they have some videos on youtube of the CUSA Houston vs Memphis game back in the day. But that shows how loud it could get.
