The MVC Tourney
The MVC Tourney begins Thursday. Illinois state is the top seed at 25-5 and (17-1)MVC. I don't think they will win it as they are not a great offensive team. They score 69pts a game and only give up 60pts. If they do not win do they make March Madness? Also if they win it does Wichita St make it or could the Valley only get one bid?

Their rpi was 34 last I looked and I think the MVC is a 2 bid league. I'm guessing they're in no matter what. Might be only reps from Illinois since northwestern lost a few games recently including 2 bad losses to Illinois. NW might have to win a couple more in the tourney to get a bid.

Northwestern is probably in as long as they win one more game; the Illinois losses aren't bad losses under the selection committee's format (which are losses to RPI 100+ teams) and they've got some really nice wins (Dayton, at Wisconsin). They're more in at this point than Illinois State is. I think ISU should make it but their resume is really similar to other recent teams that haven't gotten in.

Must be nice for NU, lose half your conference games in a so-so conference and get a bid hahah

I'm not sure they win another game at this point.

More senseless MD, bull . . . . .
First off, Northwestern is 9-6 with two regular season games left....at home, so barring two more losses and a first-round tourney loss, that's the only way the Mildcats will "lose" half their conference games.
Yes, it's a down year in the B1G, but it's a really down year in the MAC (slipping from MaddDawgz No. 9 spot to No. 13 or 14) .... and it's a down year for college basketball in general. Question, if everyone is down, is the B1G really that much further down, or simply down the same?
MD can you in any way account for the hypocrisy of you arguing on behalf of the MAC's strength by noting Jerry Palm (currently) or someone else rating the MAC at 14th, yet in that same list placing the B1G fourth -- but that you discount.
You can't have it both ways. If you're right to call the B1G "a so-so conference", then what does that say about everyone ranked beneath....SEC 5th, PAC-12 6th, American 7th, Atlantic 10 8th, West Coast 9th, Mountain West 10th, Colonial 11th, Missouri Valley 12th, Sun Belt 13th, plus 18 more conferences?
I am a Huskie fan and want Huskie basketball to succeed, but I'm not so jaded as to look at Northwestern's schedule and believe this NIU team and coach could go 20-9 overall or 9-6 for league play versus the same slate! Do keep in mind that Northwestern's home date with UI-Springfield was an "exhibition" for the Mildcats, but one of NIU's 15 actual wins.....which also include beating Olivet Nazarene in a game that school lists as an exhibition.

Didn't mean to insult Illinois' conference, sorry.

1. You're not really sorry.
2. Can't stand the ILL-ness, never have, never will but not willing to change just because you and some others can't stop making an incorrect assumption.

Illinois St shoots only 36%fg but makes 13 threes and doesn't even attempt a free throw and still beats SIU 63-50

Lmao. ISU would take NIU to the woodshed. Just stop.

RE: The MVC Tourney
Rednblack, no one said anything about ISU vs NIU. The truth is ISU is the best team in the MVC. They only average 69pts a game. They had several games where they only scored 50 some points. The nock against them for the NCAA tourney is their strength of schedule. Also the point was it's rare you can only shoot 36% not even attempt a free throw and still win a game by 13pts. It shows the power of the 3pt shot. ISU made 13 and SIU made 5 threes.

RE: The MVC Tourney
I remember the days when the MVC had trouble cracking the 50 point barrier per game, so at least some improvement

If that were the case wouldn't Akron or Ohio be ranked?

Akron and Ohio are on par with ISU. None of those schools (Akron, Ohio, or ISU) are in the same league as Wichita State.
