Rice already made a huge improvement in rebounding from last season!
Agreed. Last night was an anamoly. LaTech had a big body (#24) who not only effectively blocked the lane every time we tried to drive, but was repeatedly going over the back for rebounds and not getting called for it. Having said that, the vast majority of their rebounds were uncontested. We chose to drop back quickly on defense rather than crash the boards.
Next year it appears we'll lose Egor, who has been our best and most consistent rebounder, but in reality, Egor played like a guard on offense. I can see us playing with two bigs (from amongst Quez, Meyers and Douglas) and three guards (from amongst Evans, Adams, Cashaw, Lott and Jackson), recognizing that both Lott and Cashaw are strong rebounders for guards.
I can see Quez at the 4 and either Meyer/Douglas/Harrison at the 5

I would agree. From what we have seen in limited action Meyer and Douglas are the two who can play with their backs to the basket. Quez is definitely more suited to be on the wing. Harrison hasn't played enough to really see what he is best at but guessing it will be as a 4.

I'm hoping for a big improvement from Harrison. He impressed me when I saw him play live in the South Florida road trip. Long and athletic, but looked more like a freshman than the other two young bigs. We'll really miss Egor if he leaves but if the freshmen bigs all improve, that could make up for it.

I still believe we will have to make more of an effort to get the BIGS the ball next season. I've seen too many plays off of pick and rolls where the big flashes to the goal wide open only to never be seen. Rebounding will have to be emphasized with the bigs next year with the loss (assumed) of Egor's contributions ot rebounding ( hes our leading rebounder)

Harrison is 7 months younger than Meyer and 17 months younger than Douglas, so technically, your "looked more like a freshman" comment is correct!

Think it's been awhile since we've had reliable hands to catch the ball flashing to the basket. The trust was getting there with Douglas before he was injured. When Meyer gets more playing time I'm sure the guards will hit him more. He has definitely been open on the roll and he seems to have good hands.

RE: Rice Men vs LaTech
I think part of the problem is that except for Meyers (and maybe Douglas) our centers have little experience at "making themselves open". That is positioning themselves as the play happens to present an opening for the guards to be able to make a clean pass. That is one think Brent needs to work with them on. Brent had to learn that himself and learned quite well. Dana and Marvin got very good at looping high passes to Brent when he went up against bigger centers like Oliver Miller,.

The hands issue mentioned above also applied to Brent. He had great hands to receive those passes. That's what would be great, if he could teach that.

In 45+ yes of watching rice bskb, I think michael Harris and arsalan had the most amazing hands. They could always get their hands on the ball
