La Tech baseball facility/fan interest news
http://www.thenewsstar.com/story/sports/.../97941532/

here's bits and pieces of the article in the event the link doesn't work:

In an attempt to capitalize on a historic 2016 season, one that ended with the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1987, Tech is rolling out a few changes that will help with the game-day atmosphere while doubling as an additional revenue source.

Within the past month, Tech sold four season-long 15 by 15 spots spots on the grass down the right field line for $1,500 per space. They include a 10 by 10 Louisiana Tech branded tent, a grill, high-top tables and 10 general admission season tickets.

Southern Miss and Mississippi State, two stadiums Tech played at during the 2016 postseason, incorporates a tailgating-like atmosphere in the outfield and, in the case of Southern Miss, down the right field line. The idea spawned from those experiences.

Preseason fan interest is higher than normal due to last year's success. Born said season tickets are already up about 50 percent from 2016, with Tech selling about 400 tickets, a number Born said is the highest revenue in the system Tech has on record since 2009.

Season ticket sales are the base for Tech. Attendance numbers will spike based off individual game sales. Tech's home schedules features Arkansas, Wichita State and Southern Miss, among others.

Tech's attendance jumped from 467 in 2014 to an average of 1,012 per game in 2016. A home series against Rice featured more than 5,000 fans over a three-day period.

First, congratulations. Good moves, and I wish y'all every success.

Now, a question. Back in the 90's (?) I attended a couple of baseball games in Ruston. Do y'all still play in the park with the train running by the outfield?

Yes. The railroad is probably 50 yards or so beyond the right field wall. Students typically set up on hill between wall and railroad. I am surprised they didn't try to rent that space. The view is great and there is plenty of green area

I'm pretty sure many USM fans will agree with you on Burroughs. I was hoping we could find a way to get him back here but at this point I don't see it happening anytime soon. Good luck on the upcoming season.

Tech cant rent that space because most of it from which one can see over the outfield fence belongs to the railroad as a right of way and there has been problems at times with students being told by local fuzz to move off the property for safety purposes. Love field was built to seat 1200 fans and there has never been any additional space added other than maybe 25 out over the home team dugout. Has there been any plans or designs drawn to allow for expansion? I personally know it was built for 1200 because I have had the original seating chart in hand when working with them in planning an event. That chart has long been removed from the Tech site, is there a new one available?

One of the better seats appears to be the apt in left field or even left center. Sit out on the deck with a cold beer and some crawfish and life is good

I lived in the second floor of that apartment building for one year. Perks of being a local with a connection in the housing department. Baseball team happened to finish last in the WAC that year, and we didn't even make the conf tourney which we hosted .

I really like what y'all are doing with baseball facilities. I like college baseball, and UTSA needs to step up our game. There is some impressive G5 baseball in the State of Louisiana. I have seen the awesome set up the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns have in person
