El oh el

No CUSA for us.

Probably just stay in the sunbelt then, that's cool I guess.
It's a lateral move at best right now. Best to wait out whatever comes next at the G5 level.

ESPN's revenues have taken a beating recently. CUSA was unfortunate enough to be the first to renegotiate under the new budget status, and we got strafed.

UConn would be insane to leave the AAC unless they have a stone cold lock on a better place to land. Including a signed contract.
Big East contract with Fox is a half billion dollars. So I can see the appeal of wanting a piece of that if the AAC contract could possibly be reduced.

RE status of AAC as a G5 conference -- on National Signing Day coverage on ESPNU, the schools of the P5 conferences were each covered by the show telling, among other things, how many ESPN 300 recruits each P5 school signed. For the G5 conferences, only the top 3 schools in each conference were covered -- that included the AAC lists. We may see the AAC as a step up from C-USA, but the ESPN does not.

That's what MTSU, WKU, etc said as well.

CUSA is a step down at this point from the Sun Belt.

I would think that ODU is now out. Gave up to easily or not enough money.

Not a good fit culturally or politically with a Southern-based league like the AAC.

RE: If UConn leaves the AAC then....
Didn’t refresh my reading on this post, but UAB is the easy answer for AAC replacement of UConn. Birmingham has the largest college football television audience, and no one else is even close except Columbus, Ohio. UAB has historically good basketball and the best football program among anyone else in your list of potential candidates. Georgia State is mentioned a lot, but Atlanta doesn’t support college football other than UGa fans. Georgia Tech gets very little love and no T shirt fan support. While you see attendance numbers for GT around 45,000, those are tickets sold - not fans in seats. Most GT grads are from out of state and don’t reside in Georgia. If locals won’t support GT, why would they support Georgia State long term? Not bad mouthing Georgia State, just pointing out the obvious. The big question is whether the AAC will ever expand.

This Fall is a time for the 3 G5 schools to show case their strengths. With 4 conferences sitting out, there will be less games for the television audience to choose from. ESPN successfully convinced the PAC 12 and Big 10 through negative press and fear to cancel their seasons, thereby removing two conferences covered by Fox Sports network contracts. Coincidence??? CUSA should be knocking on the door of Fox Sports right now to work a deal for coverage this Fall.

I hope we absolutely trash Miami in game two. If football goes the way of MLB's Covid problems after that point I can live with it.

Assuming that we can get that far without the wheels coming off.

You can find/replace GSU with UAB and UGA with Alabama/Auburn. Everyone touts Birmingham as a TV market for football but that's because everyone is watching SEC games. It's irrelevant to any conference changes for UAB

You'll see more SEC (and some ACC) fans than UAB fans around the area.
