MAC would be better off doing an Internet Stream Service. A 24/7 Network is ridiculous.

Yeah...that what they basically have right now with the ESPN contract they have. Practically all their games are on ESPN3.

This year the CBS Sports Network is broadcasting a MAC game on a weekly basis. Today was a dandy with CMU beating KSU 105-98. Marcus Keene dropped 41.

As an aside, CBS broadcasts are superior to ESPN. They focus on the actual game rather than having their announcers hawk the next "Big Time" contest coming up.

I was out for lunch at a sports bar and I told them to put on CBS College Sports.

They asked me what game I wanted to watch. I just said I didn't want to watch ESPN and the constant promotion of other games.

So I watched a small time #9 UNC vs. Miami game where the Canes upset UNC in Miami. Something ESPN wouldn't even bother discussing.

Kansas-Kentucky, Kansas-Kentucky, Kansas-Kentucky.

I'd watch a MAC Network. I've been surprisingly interested in watching Olympic sports on the Big Ten network and if giving the opportunity I would rather watch MAC schools.

So there are at least two fans willing to watch a MAC Network.

RE: MAC NETWORK
I have started to enjoy watching MAC games during the week the last few years.

Another scenario that I have envisioned is the B1G purchasing the MAC content to put on the network. Make Saturday a triple header of football games with some MACtion might be fun or more football during the week when there is literally nothing on conference networks that time of year.

I think the PAC could also do this with MW content, Simply match ESPN's offer and include a clause for a scheduling agreement between the conferences. At that point you are buying some of your own content back for next to nothing and expanding the viewers in the region. Have a MW vs PAC game every morning before the PAC vs p-5/g-5 prime time game. I think it might be really good for the PAC to get back to the "common fans" of these schools that regular folks attend as opposed to the elite academic universities that most could never get in and have no interest in rooting for.

Completely agree. The Miami-CMU football game on CBSSN was the best home broadcast we've ever had, they got Randy Cross to talk about our programs and the game instead of mediocre commentators to talk about CFP shenanigans half the time. The big advantage to ESPN however is the accessibility, between the app, 360, and certain MACtion games being on ESPN 2. But regardless, a MAC network is a folly.

Nice win...why don't you suggest to the Scout Board to bring your folks over here?

RE: MAC NETWORK
The G5 I like to think of kids in a family, the family of ESPN & FOX (Dad & Mom).

AAC is the kid with the best grades who moved to a big media market after graduation. They want to make partner someday.

MWC is the kid who studied engineering with a degree that has value and will make good money in the working world.

MAC is the general studies graduate who is leveraging that Dad & Mom live in a good job market and have a summer home 3 hours away. If the MAC was born into a different family (FCS) it wouldn't have these opportunities. It would be no different than the Big Sky or Colonial.

That is why like a spoiled G5 brat I'm always asking Dad & Mom for more things because MAC doesn't have the skills by itself to pay the bills. An upgraded CFP from Dad and a G5 bowl series from Mom is about the best I can hope for.

Riding the family coattails...

RE: MAC NETWORK
Although convenient to put MAC games on the B1G Network, since there's 3 channels for the B1G -- obviously that would mean doling out $$ to the MAC due to it, and it'd be too complicated/weird for that. Plus, the MAC has a good deal with ESPN3.

Maybe ESPN3 could make a make-shift INTERNET Conference Channel for the MAC and others who buy into ESPN3... where most of the content is the premier MAC game at the time, broadcast on any of the ESPN channels or ESPN3.

Kind of like steaming from a website -- and an App of the Channel for Roku, Kodi, Amazon box, and other boxes like that... while pretty much GIVING IT to cable companies to air on Channel XXXXX.

Possibly. At the end of the day what these g-5 conference get paid is peanuts so having a pile of football games would especially be nice for the B1G network.

This ways the entire contract is worth about 8 million per year according to this.http://www.hustlebelt.com/2014/8/19/6045303/explaining-the-new-mac-espn-tv-deal

That's nothing for the B1G or any other p-5 conference could do. I"m certainly not saying they should broadcast all the games but making Saturday a full day of football might not be the worst thing in the world and MAC schools do get occasional P-5 games so even if you got 8-10 of the best MAC vs p-5 games per season and sold the rest it might be a nice way to add content without expansion.

Probably makes more sense for conferences like the PAC who has fan interest issues in the footprint.

RE: MAC NETWORK
There is a MidContinent Sports Cable Network that carries most UXD and XDSU' sports and local high school sports with hunting and fishing shows in the summer. MidContinent owns most of the cable systems in the Dakotas and many in western Minnesota. It's actually surprisingly professional and the schools get a nice financial package out of it. Don't think many FCS schools have such a system . Probably the unique footprint of the MidContinent cable network makes it possible. If it was Charter or Time Warner or whoever, they wouldn't have bothered.

UND hockey is also on the CBS Sports Network as part of the NCHC contract, and it gets some games on Fox Sports North out of MSP and the Fox Sports Central and Pacific cable channels. NDSU is new to the MidContinent lineup, but still has its fb on an over the air statewide network.

Think one can pick it up on some Direct TV and Dish and cable packages outside the area.

Same as with a Longhorn Network.
