MAC NETWORK - Erictelevision - 01-28-2017 12:43 AM

Would ANYONE watch a MAC network? I doubt many casual fans would care, but hardcore fans and alumni could certainly be interested.

RE: MAC NETWORK - Kittonhead - 01-28-2017 01:21 AM

24/7.

I would ONLY if/when JMU joined the conference and that is solely because of family reasons.

I'd watch it 7/24...7/24 of a second. I've got a fast clicker, especially while channel surfing.

This may be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on this board besides David St.'s daily dream world posts.

Potts: I agree that nobody would be interested in MAC Olympic sports.

Nobody would be interested in anything. The MAC hits a small area of the country, where the alumni bases are not that spread out. It would be a financial nightmare.

The B1G is largely the same footprint. Are MAC schools that much smaller?

RE: MAC NETWORK - C2__ - 01-28-2017 04:40 AM

Come on, is this really a debate? I'm convinced some of you like to argue for the sake of arguing.

Ask ESPN how many do.

NB. You'll have to contact the ESPN3 division, which is where it is to be found ... and of course, in the real world University, where the PAC-12 is fighting to get broad carriage for it's network, that is obviously the only place it could be expected to be found.

1. B1G footprint is actually a lot larger--NJ, PA plus OH-MI-IN-IL, plus WI-IA-MN-NE. But MAC has Buffalo.

2. B1G schools may well be larger, or maybe Akron + Toledo + Miami + BG > OSU. But B1G schools have t-shirt fans--there's a reason that most of the UC shirts I see in the Dayton area are either "Bu*keye Country" with the bearpaw replacing the C, or "Buckeye Born, Bearcat by Choice."

(I have seen Miami-O hockey t-shirts. Someone is related to a player).

I would watch the heck out of it ... just so I could see a McDonald's Big Mack commercial during a B1G-MAC game on the MAC Network. Then I could die happy.

I think that people get hung up on arbitrary geographic boundaries, and lose sight of how revenue is generated - by catering to fans.

RE: MAC NETWORK - MWC Tex - 01-28-2017 11:07 AM

As a TV network it wouldn't be feasible.

Don't say that! I want my B1G-MAC Mc Big Mack on the MAC.

RE: MAC NETWORK - kreed5120 - 01-28-2017 11:23 AM

I'd watch it, but I don't think it would be successful. MAC schools expanding the content they provide ESPN3 would be more likely.

RE: MAC NETWORK - Erictelevision - 01-28-2017 01:43 PM

John: I totally agree with your 2nd point. For a long time, I was a "t-shirt" Penn St. fan.

RE: MAC NETWORK - Fighting Muskie - 01-28-2017 01:51 PM

I don't know that a MAC Network should be in order but I wouldn't mind seeing the MAC contract with Fox's regional sports networks in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illnois, and Western New York so that games are available to see on cable.

RE: MAC NETWORK - chiefsfan - 01-28-2017 01:53 PM

I'm only interested if Kittonhead gets his own show on the Network. I mean, the SEC Network let that Idiot Finebaum on, the MAC Network can let Kittonhead.

The core of the B1G is in the same geographic area. I don't think that's really the issue, though -- although an expanded geography of the MAC like the B1G recently did would help ratings for a TV Channel (but not worth the travel expenses).

The real reason for a lack of watching a "MAC Network" would be fan bases that are Interested. Now, granted, how many people from MSU REALLY sit down to watch girls [random sport] being played on the B1G Network? There's a lot of air-time of stuff a lot of people aren't watching... but in dead-air-time for sports, sports bars and such will have it playing on their TVs. So would they do MAC? Not when there's also the B1G Network playing random stuff too.

BUT making a low-budget, why-not, wtf type MAC Network -- combining streams of all the sports being played... sure. But that'd be ripping steams from ESPN3 and other places less actively showing MAC stuff. A cable company wouldn't pick up the channel, but it could be a 24/7 INTERNET channel outputting all the delicious MAC goods! :)
