RE: Why do we obsess over Josh Pastner???
As much as I liked Josh as a person: Josh had to go because he had lost the fans.
That said: He inherited a stripped program and did pretty good with it for a first-time head coach.

As much as I like anyone who plays for my beloved Tigers: You can not deny we had some questionable 'talent'.
In my opinion, many of his players:
Thought they were bigger than the program;
Never bought into the program;
Were not disciplined, and could not accept discipline;
Had no respect for their coach, each other, and each others' girlfriends;
Despite their graduation rate and GPAs, those guys were not 'Einsteins';
But, thought they knew more than 'Wonder Boy';

Perhaps now 'Wonder Boy' has inherited some players that are above that BS...

I don't miss him but I do miss beating good teams regularly (Cal's years). 3 Top 15 wins and it's still January.

At some point, you Pastner bashers have to admit he can coach cause this isn't great players out there. Whatever it is, conGraTs!

I'm not a hater. But he ran the program into the ground. I like him as a person but I'm also glad he's gone. We'll be back...

When he fully implemented his vision, throwing players under the bus instead of taking any responsibility for all the drama and blowout losses and calling our past success into question when he couldn't earn similar results, it showed his true character.

Give me examples of him "throwing players under the bus". If you knew the crap they got away with you would be shocked. I know several former Memphis players and a few other former High D1 athletes. The stories I hear... and a couple are good friends so I believe them.

I will say this: Josh tried to use Arizona/Georgia Tech behavioral standards with inner city kids. That just didn't work out well but it was a half or 10 minutes sitting on the bench and other nickel and dime disciplinary actions. But give me extreme examples or "throwing players under the bus" actions that Josh did.
Same ole crap from you. You are angry josh is gone and defend him all the time. You wish he was still here and it really irks you that Tubby was the choice. I wonder how long you will beat this agenda drum?

well stated. Good post. Penny lane has an agenda. If Tubby ultimately wins big here and does stuff his wonder boy couldn't and didn't do, penny lane will disappear on this board.

And, here is a quote from your citation:
"Which is not to suggest Memphis was wrong to push Pastner out. I want to make that clear. Yes, I've forever believed Pastner did mostly a good job and that Memphis fans did not, and still do not, properly appreciate his four-year stretch of NCAA Tournament appearances. But, by the end, things had taken an undeniable turn in the wrong direction, and a divorce was best for all sides. Everybody needed a fresh start. That's the truth."

So, what is your point? Pastner held things together for the first 4-5 years, but things had begun to unravel exactly at the point when the program should have been completely stabilized under his control.

He doesn't have a point. He has an agenda. He defends josh, which means he likes josh. He criticizes Tubby daily, which means he doesn't like Tubby. He hopes josh does well so he can continue the beating of his agenda. He hopes Tubby does poorly so he can continue the beating of his agenda. His posts basically mean that he is pissed the fans wanted josh gone. And he takes it out on Tubby. My question is this...how can he be described as a good fan? And if the guy is miserable why doesn't he find something else to do or another school to cheer for, like GT?

Duke lost at home to NCST.

3 of the top 4 teams in the country lost this week.

Maybe the ACC isn't a giant and there's plenty of parity this year.

The ACC is probably not as good this year. Even Syracuse is 5-4 and tied with GaTech for 6th spot but one of the worst teams in our conf UConn beat them.

9 of the top 10 lost this week per CBS.

Most in 20 years.

Just a lot of parity.

BS from any player can get nipped in the bud...if a coach so chooses.

Can't use the BS to your advantage, i.e. allow it to flourish and then call 'BS' when it's out of hand.

Come on Dudes, Josh was a great guy who wasn't right for the Tigers. He's moved on I wish the Dude well, hopefully he gives us a home and home. We do need to move on and get the Tigers rolling and I'm confident Tubby will get it done

Yep.

And some still spinning this as though team had losing records every year.

Nuance is dead.

I agree. We've been all through it countless times. You can believe what you want to believe, but that era is over, and a new one has begun. Time to start living in the present.

Bull crap post. Nobody acts like he had losing seasons. He just sucked at going to the sweet 16 (he didn't do it), he sucked at winning the AAC (he didn't do it), he sucked at beating top 25 teams (he lost at least 25 times and only won 5), he sucked at managing and getting along with his players (they up and left on his butt).

If you miss him, get with Penny Lane and y'all cheer for GT and get on their board. Time to get on board with the era.
