Rice - Stanford
Rice - Army

Not sure how attendance gets credited if Rice moves the Stanford game to Sidney, but the 2016 game between Cal and Hawaii drew 61,247 in Australia.

We only had 24,409 against Army the last time Rice hosted them in 2015, but that game was played in a day long tropical downpour.

That's a good question. I would guess neither gets credit for home attendance in that situation.

FAU - Navy
MTSU - Vanderbilt
ODU - UNC [if ODU had a bigger stadium, this would be a contender. But...]
La Tech - MSU [I think La Tech stadium capacity will keep them from being a contendor]
UNT - Army
Rice - Stanford
Rice - Army
USM - Kentucky
UTSA - Arizona

Sometimes an in-state rival can draw big crowds.

MTSU and USM have their big games on week 1, so people will be ready to see some football. I think it is a tossup between these two games, but I'll give the edge to USM because MTSU's stadium capacity is <31K.

UTSA doesn't play Arizona. We played them in 2015 though.

Also not intended to hijack this thread, but I wonder how television works for this? Maybe ESPN has the Sydney game anyway, so Rice-Stanford becomes one of the C-USA ESPN games?

Houston traveled to UTSA pretty well a few years ago.

I'm looking forward the TXST game. They were not a good team last year. :)

So has the Rice vs Stanford game been scheduled for Sydney or is that still up in the air?

Still awaiting formal NCAA approval as I understand it.

Oh for real? My brother-in-law went to Tech and we are planning on going. Maybe we can find the floor of a frat house to crash on instead

You could always try Radford too.

Pretty sure all the Radford places are three-drink minimum.

It would be cool if they brought a few hundred and it would really add to the atmosphere.

There were always a few hundred when they played at WKU. One year was in a rain storm and they stayed out in the rain in their all white uniforms and cheered the game on.

always a fun time when Navy or Army come to town.

Am I seeing this correctly? UTSA only plays two games outside the state of Texas all season, and both aren't until November??

We gotcha beat. In 2015 we played out of state exactly once. (@FAU)
Then last year we had all our CUSA Texas opponents at home.

At least CUSA has fixed the conference schedules so that there's fewer imbalances like that. (Part of why we're hosting UNT back to back)

ODU's 2018, 2019 and 2020 schedules will have to be horrendous after the league office was so accommodating in 2017...no Thanksgiving game at home, alternating home and away conference weekends...we'll be hammered for this schedule down the line...2018 in November @FAU, @Marshall, @WKU, @MTSU, something like that

the most amusing schedule in my mind is FIU...is MacLeod moving to Fort Lauderdale? the Panthers in November: USTA, ODU, @FAU, WKU...nice home cooking.

First four conference games: @Rice, Charlotte, @MTSU, @Marshall, was that home cooking as well?

Official now.
Quote:The Rice Owls will open their 2017 season facing the same opponent they met in the 2016 finale --but in a far more exotic locale--as Rice and Stanford inaugurate the 2017 college season by meeting in the second annual Sydney Cup in Sydney, Australia on August 26 (August 27 in Sydney).

Great trip for your team and great exposure for Rice. I also like the fact that the Owls are traveling so far before coming to UTEP on Sept 9th but they are off the Saturday prior to the UTEP trip, so not all that bad for Rice.
