On another thread, an AAC fan posted this conference rankings "BPI" thing ESPN does. They list the "6 Power Conferences" and it gives a summary on the conference races. Guess what? No write up for the AAC as we fall in the "other conference" category. No summary for the "others". Why do you guys defend our "media partner" ESPN so much when they disrespect us with this garbage? Aresco and his P6 sticker campaign didn't work. If "P6" or I guess "P7" labels were sewed into the basketball jerseys would ESPN include the AAC then? Aresco, are you reading this son? ESPN sucks!

We should be the first to separate from NCAA and ESPN. We would make headlines and control our own damn fate. Pioneer something that's not asinine.

The Big East already did that with their Fox deal. Of course the big east doesn't have the football albatross around its neck like the American. We got to get a better deal out of ESPN or some of us are going to go broke.

...because you're looking at only two tournament teams, and two of your flagship basketball programs Memphis and UConn are down. (Plus Temple.) Half of your schools don't have credible big-time basketball programs (a pain I share at this point.)

You could argue that the AAC and the A-10 and the WCC deserve a little bit of attention in the article, but that's where you are.

I was a huge Aresco skeptic, but he got almost all of your games on some kind of TV, and not too much of it on CBS-SN.

Because we have zero real leverage.

Hi Spider-Man, how much does Aresco pay you to defend ANY criticism of him? When Aresco quits or gets fired will you still be on here, or will you move on with him to his next job? ESPN doesn't want to inflate our value before we begin contract negotiations

Slightly off topic, but with regards to Aresco, does anyone remember who else was considered to replace Marinatto as BE commissioner when he resigned in 2012? I seem to remember that Paul Tagliabue was mentioned as a candidate (Georgetown Chairman of Board) when the C7 officially broke away. Aresco was clearly hired for his TV executive experience, although his hiring didn't move the needle at all before the conference split.

IMO, Aresco cannot be adequately critiqued until he gets the AAC's second TV contract. He came in during a time of turmoil, and the dust wasn't going to settle for a few years.

I think a simple recognition that the AAC is at the very least not in a "lesser" category would do espn good too. They show a lot of AAC games, ratings could be better if they promoted the content and not using their made up distinctions to make their content look inferior. Doubt espn would have to offer more money if they did that. If another network offers more money this time, let's say a Fox or NBC...What's the harm with going with them this time? Our current media partner doesn't promote us anyway. Yeah the MWC was destroyed by espn when they left. That was 12 years ago. More media competition now. Not sure ESPN could do that again. Big East is thriving and they don't have contract with ESPN.

I think what is happening is this. Until the ACC network is up and running in 2018 ESPN has given the ACC priority coverage which cost AAC slots on ESPN channels. Therefore they sell our games to CBSSN to clear the way for ACC coverage. The only way the AAC gets better coverage is to play ACC teams at there place. When the ACC network is up and running then things might change.

Selling our games to CBSSN allows ESPN to get back the money they are paying the AAC cutting exposure. The next contract must require a set number of games that must be broadcast on there main platforms.
