Women hang on to first place
I still don't know how we did though. Only thing I can figure out is that Joe Foley is the coach, and if you can stay close going into the last two or three minutes, he will usually out coach the other guy, or gal. We got beat bad on the glass, they outshot on FG's according to the scoreboard stats by about 12 per cent, and I think this team doesn't play Joe Foley defense. We got beat off the dribble time after time, and, I don't know how many points Troy scored in the paint by driving right by our guards, and nobody picked them up or took charges. I'd guess they hit several more three's than we. How'd we win? I really don't know, so I give the credit to Joe Foley.
It was the type of game you'd expect out of two teams tied for first place.

It was a great game. Not sure how we pulled it out either. Glad we got this one, since I don't see how we win at Troy. But, Foley's teams get better and better all season so who knows.

Believe it or not we did it with defense. We don't play Joe Foley defense. We are ranked 21st in the nation in scoring defense. What the Troy coach said: "They are a good team and a well-coached team and it showed tonight," Troy head coach Chanda Rigby said. "They held us to just 54 shots in the game; we shot it 99 times against Tennessee. They did a great job of defending and we didn't make enough plays in the end. Hopefully, we'll get to play them two more times before the season is done."
Indeed. They average 75 shots a game and against us they took 21 less shots. If Troy takes those 21 shots and makes 48 percent thats another 18 points. They average 86 points a game and they got 74 against us. We forced them into a half court offense and made them go deeper into the shot clock than they are accustomed. When you do that you take offensive possessions away from them.
Yes we got beat on the boards, but we did ok where it counted. Troy averages 16 2nd chance points a game and they got 9. They average 18 offensive rebounds a game and they got 11.
That's how we beat them. With defense.

We saw how Troy wants to play in the 3rd quarter when they scored 25 points. Luckily our defense was back for the 4th quarter.
